I'm being told by a few people it's not safe for me to get under my car only supported by jack stands to change a few bushes.
This true?
Do i really need to put the thing on a hoist?

A couple of car ramps are your friend.

Jack stands are fine, just dont tug on the car realy hard.
If using jack stands just slide your rims and tyres under the sill panels for extra safety.
jack stands are fine.

what ever you do dont do jack stands and a trolley jack. a good friends of mine did that and the car came down on him. crushed from left collar bone to bottom right rib, after he was removed from underneith they found out the car was about 100mm away from the pavement. luckily he survived but only after 6months in hospital and alot of rehab. so please guys be extremely careful whenever working under cars. and yes spare tyre/s under there aswell for just incase.
Jack stands are fine, and you use a trolley jack go get the car onto the stands...
Before getting under the car put some spare wheels under the car and also give it a good firm shake to make sure everything is secure.
It's also a good idea to have a mate there whilst you're under the car. That way if something goes wrong you're not left trapped dying a slow death, and it also means you have someone to pass you the tools and beer![]()
