    Default Oil pump priming

What proceedure do i need to follow when cranking over a new engine? Do i just crank it for a while with no spark plugs to get oil flowing?

    is this a v6 or v8?

the v8s don't get oil pressure unless you fill the oil pump with grease. just got a new motor built the other day and thats what we did. and it was sweet. you can use petroleum jelly or vaso too.

No it's a v6 ecotec. When i built it i didnt fill the pump with vaso (seemed stupid to me) but i did put a copious amount of assembly lube in there.

You need something with the consistency of grease or vas as mentioned above.
It creates the seal to allow your pump to self-prime.

I don't know what the priming process is for v6 oil pumps. In general for any engine it is desirable to start the motor asap after the pump is primed so that oil is circulating at full pressure around the motor as fast as possible. Just cranking it with no spark will not do this properly and could cause premature cam (or other component) wear and/or failure.
