I had my caprice serviced last week. I usually go by the book and get it done every 5000km. I'm doing a lot more k's lately and there was only about three months since I had it done 5000km before. I asked my mechanic about servicing it every 10,000km. He suggested that its fine to do that, but it should be done at least every 6 months. If I drive a lot then it should be fine serving every 10,000km.
But when it comes time to resell the car, are dealers going to frown upon not getting it done every 5000km and give me less for it in the year or so to come?
Isn't it 10,000 k's between service intervals? It is for my SS so don't see how your Caprice would be any different.
woaa, who gets their car serviced every 5000 ? The only thing that could suffer from 10000 intervals is the engine oil... yes, its a rather important part of the car.
Just make sure they are using good oil, SM rated, and keep an eye on it on the dipstick. if it turns black after 6,7,8ooo get it changed. If its stays golden brown up to 10000 its sweet.
I guess I always thought it was 5000km. Ooops. I think the log book has two options.
My mechanic used Penzoil.
If you change your oil every 7500 and do a full service every 10K then you should be set. Cost less when it comes to the 10k service to cause you've just done your oil
I do mine every 5000, always have regardless of what i drive. Having said that, my car is lucky to do 15000 a year so 5000 intervals suits better for me. My diesel hilux gets done every 7500 but it does 40-50 thousand kays a year so it's done frequently. I'd say you're fine with 10000. If it bothers you go in between and do it every 7500.
I have always changed the oil in my vehicles every 5000km aswell. Having said that i do the work myself and have never bought a new car. If i bought a new car I would just get it serviced as per the manufacturers specs until it was out of warranty then i would do it myself every 5000km. Matt
I over service my VY, every 7500, or so. Recomended is 15,000. I do it all myself and even if I had a new car and was getting mechanic services done at the correct intervals I would still do sneaky oil changes in between. As for buying a car I would opt for an " over serviced" one.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
My car has just had its 105k service, which I do myself, and up to this point, I have adhered to the 15k intervals. Now that the mileage has passed 100k, it will be getting them each 10k, until it hits 150k, then it will be further shortened, probably to 5k intervals like my old VR got. It had 335k on it when I sold it, still on the original motor and trans, and ran beautifully.
In my experience having bought and sold many cars log book servicing won't get you any more for the car. 5000 or 10,000 servicing won't make any difference what so ever. Log book servicing will make the car easier to sell however. The second question most people ask is if the car has books and many won't even consider the car if it doesn't.
