    Smile VET Courses

For those of you who know about this I'd like to know what you think of VET courses, are they worth it? I understand that can be quite expenses, up to a few grand, sometimes more.

    Cheers, Chilly.

yes and no, gives you lots of good skills, but in my experience you never get the credit for all the work youve done

    Hi Chilly,

I think it really depends on what stream you want to do your course in, I did mine in Automotive Technology in back in 1999/2000, at the time the course was similar to, and gave the same qualification as the motor mechanics pre-apprenticeship course offered though the same TAFE that was recommended in order to obtain an apprenticeship. Our course however went into a little more detail especially with general engineering / machining, and welding. I found I got a lot out of it having always had a love of cars, engines, etc... When I undertook the course it was done one day a week and ran from lunch time, to 9pm our school really pushed the whole "VET" thing, so enabled students undertaking these courses to have the required class blocks off in order to get to and attend the course.

Will it get you a job, well no but it will give you a lot of useful experience and contacts within the relevent industry if you play your cards right...

I never picked up a job out of it, but got a lot out of it, and I have found a lot more of it has suck with me; as opposed to what I later studied in my degree in Information Technology.
