    Default Cigarette Lighter/Accesories Socket

    Hey all,
i got a vz ute...i bought a gps and the charger plugs into the accesories socket , but the wires run along the power window switches and handbrake and gearstick and its jsut annoying and looks shit etc...i've bought a double adapter socket (1 male 2 female) to run underneath my dash under the steering wheel and plan on having the wires run under my centre dash to make it look more tidy (gps is mounted ontop of the dash in the centre).

the plan is to cut the male end off the new sockets, and have the bare wires showing..i would then solder in parallel to the wires of the existing factory socket and just mount the 2 female sockets under the steering wheel, with the wires running under the trim where the power window switches etc are. i would have 3 available female sockets to use for whatever. (the factory one in the centre console, and the 2 going under the dash..these 2 are the ones which are soldered in parallel to the factory one)

just wondering if soldering in parallel is the right thing to do..will it cause voltage drops or anything and make accesories run poorly....if i ran all 3 at once will there be anything wrong with their power output...eg, the single factory one puts out 12v..if i run 3 sockets, will this make it run at 4v each or because its in parallel it won't matter?

if anyone can help me i'd appreciate it heaps

    cheers everyone

well seeing as though i had no replies all day, i went along with it...hardwired a double adaptor accesories socket to the 2 wires going to the factory socket...when i tested it, it worked...when i neatned everything up and started hiding wires, it stopped working..i redone that wholllee job again...still nothing...i took everything out and made it how it was orignally except that the 2 wires going to the factory socket has been soldered on, thats it..it still doesn't work..what the ****?..i tried it on my brother car, who had done the same sorta thing, it doesn't work on his either...tried on my parents acclaim, it worked...tried on my sisters astra, it worked...conclusion is, our modified sockets are ****ed and we don't know whats wrong with them yet...anyone have any ideas? im probably going to replace the socket and try another way.
