Cash for Clunkers Petition

I just heard that Julia Gillard is wanting to introduce a "Cash for Clunkers Scheme" similar to the one in the UK where they will pay up to $2000 for a car over 10 years old.

The cars will then be crushed, NOT DISMANTLED OR SOLD TO WRECKERS.

Whilst this may seem good in theory it means that all of those parts will be destroyed never to be seen again or used to keep our existing old cars going or in good repair.

Obviously it won't just be Commodores either with all of our old beloved cars becoming harder to find parts for particularly shells or panels.

So I have started up one of those petitions, the link is below if you want to sign it.

If the link isn't working it is because it is new and may take up to 12 hours to be approved but should be good by tomorrow (Tuesday 27th of July).

Petitions don't work. The gov didnt acknowledge the 90,000 people that signed the R 18+ one for video games, and that is the largest petition in Australia.

Good idea - just don't do it to the old cars you want to preserve. Burn a Jap - 90% plastic - melts in minutes.

I read once somewhere that a car during it's lifetime only produces as much pollution as they make when the car is built. If this is correct (dunno but could be true) then we are better of keeping our old clangers and the government could use the money to bring fuel prices down. That way we can cruise longer and harder.

Thanks to those that have signed!

We are a Holden/Ford Garage Family, so it's on for young and old when the Supercars are on.

(I think I can see Russell Ingall coming around the corner in his car cruelty Hummer.)

There is definitely a better response from the Holden Guys than the Ford guys who are a little short sighted.
