Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong section, didn't know exactly where to put it.
I have a 93 VR S Commodore, duel fuel,
And up until yesterday have never had a problem with this, and switched between gas and petrol on a frequent basis.
Yesterday my car wouldn't start when switched to petrol, though i got it going on gas, and it stalls the second i switch it back to petrol. Originally i thought it would be the fuel pump as it sounds the same as when thats blocked or shot, but i've since been told that its almost guaranteed to be the solenoid.
Just wanting to know a rough estimate of how much these are to fix, and if anyone knows anyone in S.E Melbourne they would like to recommend im all ears.
Also if you have any troubleshooting idea's id like to hear them and try them out.
Cheers, Stephen.
Hi. Sorry to bother you but did you solve this issue because I have the same thing happening.
Hey mate, yeah i did. Funnily enough a week or so after i posted and after a couple of back fires the car stopped running on gas but started running on petrol again.
Blew my mind as i had absolutely no clue how this could happen, suspected some issue with the fuel pump but was not sure.
Took it to my LPG mechanic and he said he could see nothing wrong with anything, although when the car had backfired the last time, it blew the head off the gas mixer (which is why it was no longer running on gas), which he replaced, replaced all plugs and leads which stopped the backfiring and i've never had a problem since.
He said that the first issue could have been a result in a blockage somewhere, as i suspected possibly in the fuel pump, but he saw no evidence of it and was at a loss for words as to what exactly could have been the problem.
I guess id suggest to take it to an LPG mechanic and see what they say. I've learnt that with the LPG systems its never as easy as figuring out the problem and ordering a new part/fixing it in your back yard.
