Default building a project car for easternats 2011

as title says, me and my father are looking to make a burnout/drift car for easternats, my budget is 1000 for the car itself, then another 1500 for mods ect i was thinking

gemini with a buick v6 at first,
or vn v6 with a cam spool and shift kit ect
or vn v8 spooled and cammed
    or corrola with buick

i think the conversions are to fiddly, id rather get a vn v8, drop a cam in, some diff gears, strip it out, make a roll cage, racing harness, i have a sports wheel and bits and pieces

i want something safe, so not a tiny mighty boy cause if i hit the wall with that, im tasting steering wheel till they surgicly remove it.

i will do all of the work myself, my dad is a qualified mechanic, and we have a welder, heaps of tools, so yeah, the budget isnt including labour

any suggestions to cars/mods/information on the event, anything, feel free to post, this will be my first racing event

i will aslo be on my L's, rather learn on a track then on the street

Good luck with that. the cheapest vn v8 on ebay at the moment is a grand but reckon your lookin at 2 at the cheapest to get one thats half decent.
so your 2.5 might just do it ..mini spool ..disconnect the back brakes. keepin the thing cool is the biggest challenge no matter weather u go the v6 or v8 spend your spare change on keeping it cool big rad big fans IMO

ill weld the diff, dads mate is a professional welder, i dont want a decent car, its nterior can be rooted, as long as the car itself wont fall apart and the motor isnt to tired, my aim will be to blow tyres, and a motor :P

Just get a g ood healthy vn v6 commodore manual....

bsolutely GUT it - for maximum weight reduction.
run some 14's on the back with commercial tyres on em
weld the diff, make sure the handbrake works good at speed....

and go absolutely nuts. - you might not have the power to do impressive skids etc - but if you got some big nuts you will impress the crowd none the less.

Plus, easternats will be held at winton - so even if you don't go too well during the day, you can have your time to shine in the grass events
