Hello all , a few weeks ago the wifes Excel twin cam has started losing power .It seems to struggle off the mark then after about 50mtrs it runs fine . It doesn't matter if the motor is hot or cold its the same .I have replaced the plugs cleaned the throttle body had the cam belt changed 500 kays ago and used some injector cleaner to no avail . It doesnt misfire and starts first time . It feels like after 50 metres it hits the power band and takes off like a rocket ( well as much like a rocket as an Excel can lol) I tried posting on a Hyundai forum but didn't get any bites so thought i will try here .
Thanks in advance Dave C

might need a new engine
You might have to start checking things like compression, fuel pressure and timing. It could be a vaccum hose has fallen off the fuel pressure regulator causing the fuel pressure to be high all the time.
distributor and rotor? they can cause funny things.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
It doesn't have a dissy . It is fuel injected and has coil packs .

Ok i just have to say this, But have you check the obvious? Has your wife put on some weight in the past few weeks? Just kiddingUmm.. Have you tried resetting the computer of the car? (eg disconnect the battery, hold brake for like 15 seconds and let it sit for about 5 mins?) computer may have developed some nasty habits. My old commodore (vn) developed a habit of chugging and slightly missing at idle, reset computer and was gold
for a while...)
Hi,
As the problem is only for the first 50 m, it could be that you may have a vacuum leak to the inlet manifold. When you first start a fuel injected motor, there is no feedback from the O2 sensors (ie cold) and so ithe motor is only going of a preset mixture setting.
A small vacuum leak will make the mixture too lean and cause problems. As the sensors heat up, then they can read the exhaust and richen up the mixture.
If not, have a look at the basics, hoses, plugs, leads, filters etc.
Just a thought.
Hyundai ay, manual or auto?, if its a vacuum leak, you will notice its running like shite, even at idle, you will nearly always be able to hear it if you're under the hood that is, if auto, an auto box will be real slack if treated badly e.g. flogged not looked after, a stuffed torque converter, can sometimes give the feeling your taking off in second not first, you might need somone to look at it for you because it could be heaps of things good luck...
depending on how easy the belt is to get too ide be checking the cam belt is still tight and check its still timed correctly might have jumped a tooth or 2 after the belts slacked off would save some expensive damage if it lets go
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Thanks for all the feedback guys , i will check them out one by one on the weekend , Although i can rule out my wife putting on weight .I hope she doesn't read this or she will hunt you down Anarklov3r lol.
