Default Tyre pressure gauge - good one

Hey All.

I've been getting ****ed off lately when I've gone to check my tyre pressures when I'm filling up with juice. Even in the few stations which have functional air hoses (few and far between), the gauge on the handpiece - can we trust it? How accurate IS it? I've heard tell that the accuracy of those things is all over the place.

So - I have a compressor, the air is no problem. I even have a tyre valve fitting for it. I could I s'pose use the adjustable regulator on that, but I don't know how accurate IT is either. (cheap compressor)

Question - a GOOD tyre pressure gauge.... Anyone recommend anything in particular? How spendy is it, and where could one be had?

Cheerz, and thanx.

You can buy the same brand tyre air fittings as what they use at the garages. I think the common brand is JP. But don't forget, the reason why the garages dont work half the time which ****es me off a bit is that every Tom, Dick, and Harry use them. They chuck them about and treat them roughly. If you bought one for yourself it will be okay to use for a very long time. I have a feeling they are around the $50 mark.

Cheers,
Jim

Hey, thanks Jim.

Yes, I'd agree with you re the general treatment of those things. It can be amazing how little of a s#*t people can give about other people's stuff.

You're right, $50 isn't a lot to spend on something that really should outlast ME if I look after it.

Cheerz Mate!

All the servo's I go to have the new digital pumps that you configure before connecting. To be sure I keep an extra guage in my glove box that I use to check accuracy. It cost me $5 from BP and I haven't had any issues with it. All the digital pumps I have come across have been accurate as well.

I hate people leaving the hose lying in the ground, dropping them, kinking them . The one at my local Shell is so bent and worn that hose has 3 or 4 repairs and the clasp has long broken off. The old style mechanical ones are prone to damage as well so I tend to avoid them.

BTW (sorry for asking - especially if you already do it) do you check the pressure in your spare as well

there is a HSV one available from holden, you get a small tool kit when you buy a HSV and it has a tyre pressure gauge, but I believe you can buy the small tool kit seperately
