    Default LSD and an alarm?

got my ute bogged on the side of a dirt road the other day in a muddy ditch, burried the front bumper half a wheel deep in mud and the back left was spinning in the mud, my 2 right side tyres were on dirt..tried to get the ute out of the bog but the wheel kept spinning, just wondering if an LSD would help pull the car out in a situation like that seeing as though they're designed to apply torque to both wheels?

is there an alarm i can install on my hardlid to stop the ferals next door tryina get in..it's already got the 2 locks on both sides but i doubt that'd stop them if they use their brains, so jsut wondering if theres an alarm that can go off when the hardlid goes up, but only when the car alarm is activated

    cheers everyone

    hey bud.
for the first question, the simple answer is yes.
the lsd distributes the power evenly over both wheels so there is no doubt it would have helped you in this situation.
although the diff ratio's many people run for utes and performance cars probably don't ever think they will be needing the lsd to get out of a muddy hole haha.
as for the second question i got an aftermarket alarm installed from my local autobarn.
they wired it through the hardtop when they installed it, it goes off when the hardtop is opened when the alarm is armed.
maybe try you local supercheap or autboarn and ask them if they have anything?
make sure they do a proper job though, mine has had a few problems.

probably better off getting any alarm fitted by a qualified auto electrician

Fair chance if you were that bogged, an LSD wouldn't have helped you get out. Once you get the front of a car down in mud, it's very, very unlikely you'll be able to drive/back it out.

id say for the alarm, theyd just put the same sort of switch under the hardtop as they'd put under the bonnet,a pressure switch or whatever they're called

haha yea it was only the front left of it though, wasn't like a whole heap of the bumper, just that corner, we nearly had the bugger out, we found some tree's that had stakes around them..so i got 5 of them, jammed em under the wheel etc didn't work, jacked the bog wheel up , packed it with rocks and put the stakes in sideways, nearly had it out then it jsut spat all our hard work out from under it..lucky a pajero came along and towed us out...had to be at my uncles for a 1230 lunch and it was already 1240 haha, couldn't tell the old man i sent my ute into a muddy ditch and bogged it hahaha

where is a towpoint under a vz ute by the way...i have no towbar and we had to wrap it around a suspension component haha..lucky that pajero came along and we cut down a 30 min trip to 15mins, or else dad woulda cracked the shits hahaha

i have some pictures here, hope they upload right

hey i know im slow, but if you have an alarm already, then itll most likely have a bonnet trigger, so why not just tap into the wire for that trigger and install a new switch on the tail gate? shouldnt be too hard to do, running a wire the length of your car isnt fun, but as long as your careful and use plenty of zip ties itll be fine.

the bonnet trigger will use an earth, so its only a single wire hookup.

This is exactly why you shouldn't try and drift with an open diff, very unpredictable.

haha it's besides the point how it got there:P for all everyone else knows it could be some guys driveway (we were in the tamworth area, so the long gravel driveways are common) and the marks in the background could be a coincidence:P

so for the sake of not getting caught or causing an argument im not saying how it got there even though it looks obvious how it did hahaha...but its only a matter of time till someone has a whinge about it hahaha

hey ari666, that's not a bad idea, i'll have a look into that

When you get bogged like that you can sometimes get out by pulling the handbrake on enough to stop the one back wheel spinning. You need to keep the revs down as low as possible and then slowly pull the handbrake on until you can hear your engine load up. You have to play around a bit to match your revs and how hard you pull the handbrake on. People use this technique in 4 wheel drives with open diffs when they get stuck.
