Hi all,
I am looking at purchasing a Series 1 VT 5ltr Motor.
I am just wondering how one would tell what kw it is?
How is a 195 kw Motor Distinguished?
Also, how would one tell if the motor is a Roller Cam Motor, without pulling it to bits?
I am looking at buying one that has had 145,000 k's on it from the wreckers. I am wondering what sort of price would be fair, as I don't want to go in and be ripped off. The motor can be heard running and also had a Auto transmission behind it.
So basically, what price would on pay, for it bare? And for it with accessories and no loom?
Thanks, Chris
the engine number can be found on the passengers side at the front of the block.
VT engine will read VM which will mean its a roller cam motor..
to tell if its a roller rocker motor (HSV), just take the oil cap of n see if you can see its got roller rockers.
some else should be able to tell you a more accurate way of finding out if its a HSV Motor.
for price range, im unsure, but for a motor n box i wouldnt pay nemore than 3gs. but thats just me, just coz it dosent have many k's, dosent mean its had an easy life, try n find some history if you can? like books n service history..
hope this helps..

Anything else anybody can add to the plate?
yeah engine number is the only way you are going to pick a roller cam VT engine, externally
shouldn't really pay more than 3K for it
Unfortunately I was unable to view it today,
Any last hints or recommendations?
Thanks, Chris
