So i have a couple of cars, my main is my VR, though one of them is a 1995 Toyota Camry CSi,
And no, im not indian.
It isn't done up or anything lame like that, just a simple car that i sometimes drive when im doing work on my VR, so please no slagging.
Anyways i was in a low speed accident about a year ago that didn't bother me, though whilst driving later, the bonnet flew up.
I have since replaced the bonnet, though when i fitted the new bonnet, the latches fixed to the car did not match up with the latches fixed to the bonnet.
I then noticed that the panel that the radiator sits on has been bent back about an inch, maybe slightly more.
The bonnet sits fine, but this panel will obviously need mending or replacing so that the latches match up.
Is there any panel beaters on here that may be able to give me a rough estimate for how costly this is?
And better yet, is there any fellow commodorians that work as a panel beater that wants to book this in for a job?
I've had bad experiences with the panel beaters around my area which is why im not wanting to take it back to them.
Some help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers.
im no panel beater but i know that its near impossible to give a quote over the net like you want. There could be any amount of damage lurking underneath.
Pictures would almost definitely help
Yeah, im aware of this.
I've checked it out pretty good and everything seems fine except for that one panel.
It hasn't pushed anything else back, bent anything else, cracked anything else,
To be honest it looks as though if that one panel was replaced it would sit perfect and straight, so figured someone may be able to give me a rough estimate if they've had experience with similar problems.
I have had a near identical accident problem before. They needed to replace the front panel/cross bar piece and that including front guards, bonnet, and lights was around $2500 without paint.
One thing I have done before to pull that panel out is the following.
**** WARNING**** Do at own risk *** I will not be held responsible for any damage, etc***
If the car is still driving well with no radiator issues or anything tie a tow cable to a strong tree and the other end to the front panel.
Then reverse slowly to take up the slack and then put a little effort in, but not for too long, small gentle pulls is what to do.
Hopefully it will pull the panel out enough to line up a little better.
Damage that is possible is the radiator cracking if you drive back too quick, but I got a new one for $50.
Thanks buddy.
Yeah it drives perfectly fine,
Have been driving it for months now with wire tying the latches together, its very sturdy, but obviously i can't keep it this way, and never drive it over 60-80K's anymore if its driven at all.
As stated before i don't drive the car much but i want it to be completely road worthy for when i do.
I've already replaced the bonnet, lights are fine, there was literally #### all damage on the car after the slight accident, just a small dint and some blue paint from the other car, but somhow it un latched the bonnet causing it to fly up later.
When my bonnet flew up I actually used my shoe laces to hold it down till I got home.
Haha, good work.
My bonnet was totalled.
It flew up as i hit 100Km's coming off the westgate, had to call a tow truck.
I was surprised it didn't shatter the windscreen it hit that hard, just gave it a small crack in the corner which has since been replaced.
Your tow cable idea sounds like its worth a descent shot.. Nothing to lose but a screwed radiator really..
And of course id be holding you legally accountable for any damage done![]()
I might be able to help you .... depending on how bad it is pushed in, is the radiator support panel creased or just dented in. what else is damaged ??? do you just want the rad support fixed so u can close the bonnet ??? or all the damage fixed i will msg u my phone number u can call me after 4pm during the week if u still need it fixed cheers scott
