I've filled up a few times at Liberty stations and had no problems, but I've never used Premium from them. The only Premium I use is BP Ultimate.

Steer away from "discount" servo's, like Woolworths, Coles, etc. Any servo where if you produce a shoppers docket, they knock 4c off the pump price.

If you have a look at the counter next time you go in, you should see a little sign stuck to it stating that their discount fuels are actually 30% Ethanol.

Ethanol is the intoxicating agent in fermented and distilled liquors; used pure or denatured as a solvent or in medicines and colognes and cleaning solutions and rocket fuel; proposed as a renewable clean-burning additive to gasoline.

it also has been proven to have some positive effects on teh engine, as well as negitive, neither of which have been proven.

its hard to say one particular servo chain has 'dud petrol' many are supplied by either the same company or the same tankers even.

changes are the actual servo might have a dud system, **** in their tanks. tanks are meant to be tested for water daily - i bet very few servos do that.

I wonder if the laws are different in Queensland than Victoria? Down here by law the servo has to put a label on the pump stating there is ethanol in the fuel. I know that Shell (Coles) do not have ethanol in their fuel, at least in Melbourne, and I would be surprised if they do it anywhere else. I know that some of the independents do sell ethanol-filled product, but again it is clearly labelled. There's no motivation for the discount servos to put ethanol in their fuel because they make up the lost revenue from the 4c dockets by marking up their prices in the grocery store.

i notice a lot that when i tank up at those discount fuel joints my car becomes a slug and idles so damn rough. But when i tank up from shell or mobil i get a noticable difference to how my car runs and it idles smooth as. This isn't proven to happen always but I am fairly sure that what i have observed so far is pretty much what i am relying on. I tanked up at shell the other day and the car runs like a dream and has great fuel economy.
