I've driven automatic cars for maybe a total of 20 minutes in my entire life .
Learned to drive in a manual VN stationwagon... Work cars have been 5 speed JE Camira, 5 speed VS wagon and now 5 speed Hyundai Getz, as well as my own car - VN exec 5 speed manual .
A lady I work with just bought a new Mazda 6, the luxury model with the tiptronic shift. I got confused with it, I was fine changing from 1st to 2nd but going from 2nd to 3rd I had a bad habit of pushing it the wrong direction . Oh, and I'm proud to say, I can do smoother gear shifts than the auto box in that Mazda .

haha, i nearly put a hole in the floor of my VK looking for the clutch. I swear by manuals, the Wagon will be getting changed later, and the VL my sister drives, so i never have to use it!

auto restriced license.
untill i sit the practical in a manual i legally cant drive them. though once i did drive for about 20min in a hilux [stalled twice in car park and though a little slow, was fine o nthe road] was follwed by a cop cr for a bit too lol. until i get the feel for manuals im sticking by autos. slower and/or rougher fitting or not im a very lazy person.

It is true that there are not many manual Commodores around. That is because most buyers are fleets, looking at the lowest common denominator for drivers and price. Everyone can drive an auto, some cannot or will not drive a manual.
Thus overall for the VS, about 95% sold were slush boxes.
However, for the 20 to 30% private sales (my guess) probably about 1 in 5 would be for a manual.
The V6 and V8 engines are great with a manual gearbox. Intend to drive manuals until I can't drive anymore.
Those who buy autos are probably not as passionate about the transmission as dedicated manual drivers.
