    Default My first defect notice.

    Hey all.
Thought that i would report the bad news of my first defect notice that i obtained this afternoon whilst driving home from work.
The cops pulled me over just as they pull over any P plater that owns any kind of half descent car and inspected me from head to toe.
They managed to come up with:
    Rear reflectors need replacing,
    Exhaust needs tightening,
Rear speakers need to be secured, (they were until he yanked on them and pulled them out )
Right high beam not as bright as left,
Horn is too hard to push (???),
and blue rego lights need to be white.

The blue rego light i will cop, and fully understood the risk of being pulled over when i bought them, which is why i also purchased a set of white LED's for the number plate in case i did get pulled over i could change them on the spot, though does anyone else feel that getting defected for the other reasons is a little bit rich?
Anyone else smell a cop picking on a P plater?
So for the time being my car has a bright new canary coloured sticker across the windscreen and i will be driving a Toyota Camry until road worthy is done.. joy.

On a lighter note, whilst i was standing there as the police went through my engine bay trying to figure out how to open the air box, someone in what looked like a VK commodore, 2 tone gray and black with a large bonnet scoop and bonnet gauges came flying past. He looked over at me, upped his thumb out the window and floored it past us so fast that the cops nearly lost their shit and didn't know what to do.
To whoever that was (on Corrigan Road in Noble Park), Kudos mate, really stirred the pot for a few minutes there with the cops :P

Kicked it? I could understand it he tried to raise it with his foot as it may be hot, but flat out kicking it?

Yeah, he pushed it around with his foot a little bit to see if it was loose, called me over and gave it a firm couple of kicks to show that its loose.

After the first kick I would have said firmly but politely that I don't appreciate people kicking my car. I can understand checking the pipes though, I saw a car today with the exhaust pipe hanging about 2" off the ground, I can't for the life of me understand has it hasn't snapped off yet.

Most of those should be easy to fix. Rear reflectors, taillights are a dime-a-dozen at wreckers. Should be easy to rehang the exhaust or exhaust shop should do it cheap. Rear speakers, you could fix that easily enough. Change the high-beam globes, but also put a DMM on the wires to make sure they have the same voltage. Disassemble the steering wheel and check/clean the horn components. And well number plate lights you know about.

I was trying to play nice and naive so that i didn't get a defect, so i didn't want to talk back too much, but i did stop him and say "ok alright i can see that it's loose".
I was going to take it to an exhaust shop to get some work done soon anyways so ill get them to fix it up.
I'm not too worried about fixing everything, i know they're all pretty simple. I figured the high beams were just the globes, and i was planning on putting brighter ones in soon anyways so that's no issue. DMM on the wires is a good idea though, thanks for that.
Just bugs me that if i had of been a fully licensed driver they probably wouldn't of looked twice at me.

Great you deserve it, now go fix your car and stop whining. They are doing their job so stop complaining. If you get it checked out and the guys say there is nothing wrong with the things that you have listed then great, you have proof that the car is not dangerous until then, suck it up. And they are not "picking" on p platers they are making sure that p platers are driving safely and with safe cars because all the number and statistics show that p platers are more inexperienced when it comes to road safety.

duno if most would agree.. but maybe Road Worthy certs need to be done once a year? ( As in QLD once you have RWC you never need it again to re-rego, Unless.. it expires or is canceled)
Buut, thing is.. most mechanics will do what they do know, say .. ah yup, "this needs fixing" etc..

I've seen TONS of bogey cars around lately.. waiting for an accident

As for the Horn to hard to push? I don't get it lol.. Ive never come across a horn that's hard to push ;p

Badluck mate, I dont know why he pulled you over but alot of people think its because they are p platers, i've been pulled over off my p's aswell and got treated the same.

Depends on the cop and your attitude... When I was on my p's I got pulled over probably 10-15 times over 3 years, and to be honest im suprised my car didnt get defected... To low, to loud, tint to dark, and not to mention all the other things wrong on a 20 year old car lol

But just get it cleared, and live your life..... I guess he has a job to do and he chose to defect you over the bombs on the road lol

Damn mate. Were you a smart ass to him? I'd say probably the blue lights got his attention to start with.

When i get pulled over i say good morning/evening, be extremely polite, nod and agree, put on a sad face and thank them when they leave, whether i get a fine or not. That way they walk away thinking you're a reasonable person and they'll be less likely to look out for you in future. You gain nothing by making it obvious you think they're a wanker, just suck it up and draw less attention next time.

So you knew the blue rego light was a defect and you could be pulled over, and when it happens you think they are picking on you for being a P Plater? What part of bleeding obvious can you not see here?

You got pulled over because you had an obvious defect and the Police are upholding the law. Don't want to be pulled over, then leave your car stock.

Easy fix, exhaust is new hangers, like 5 bucks each. new reflecters, birghter globe, 20 bucks and you already have the rego lights and your off. Coppers are doing their job though. Always two sides to a story and im not implying your a tosser or you were a smartass. But i believe in my opnion haveing a 6X9 that was yanked loose is bs.

Yep and a loose box of tissues on the parcel shelf can kill you in a front impact, so a 6*9 deffinatly would.
You should be thanking the cop, he could have just saved your life or one of your passengers.

As all thats be said above mate. Think youself lucky is wont cost you much to fix all the things. And dont think they were pickin on you coz ur a P plater mate. Ive been pulled up just as many times since being fully licenced and had the same going over by the boys in blue as I did when I was on my P's. If you choose to drive anything slightly more louder/done up/modified/nice looking then all the other average looking cars on the road you will always grab attention (after all isnt that part of the reason we do it? for other people to say 'check out that nice car?') fact is this includes cops as well.

I'm the same, always super nice to them as i respect their job, though i don't feel the things on my car deserved a defect. A warning maybe? As i am happy to cop that they need attention and happy to get them fixed, but defects to me feel a little extreme.
It was day time so i didn't have my lights on, therefor they couldn't see the rego lights until they got on their knee's and checked them.

When he started kicking your exhaust you should have asked to compare it with his and kicked his.

Blue lights, parkers, etc are an instant cop magnet, and once they've pulled you over they will try and get you for everything.

Though, I recon some of the stuff they did you for is BS, horn too hard to push? Seriously? How exactly is that something that measurable? How not-hard to push is it supposed to be? lol

I know aye, that's the thing that annoys me the most about the list.
He pushed it, hard, it beeped and he goes "hmm.. that was a little hard to push", then called out to the other cop who was writing the list "faulty horn!"
    Wank.

    Touch screen horns maybe?

Usually I'd say lifes a bitch, but this does seem a bit harsh. The numberplate lights probably were a bit of bait you set yourself, but the rest is complete bullshit.

I'm honestly supprised that I havent been pulled over yet. My exhaust is really loud, I've got shiny 18's, my parkers are blue, and I've got red P's for crist's sake! I even tempt the cops whenever I see a cop car. I like to give it a rev at the lights and drop down a couple of gears whenever I'm beside one. And give it a big exhaust crackle when I'm slowing down. They couldnt give a rat's arse. I bet if I did a U turn with a mini spool diff they still would'nt care. New hoon rules my arse!

But I did get a pretty evil look from a hot chick copper when I gave it a bit of a poke at a light the other day. You'd think the blue parkers would give me away, but no.

Do you want to know what I smell?

I smell some bullshit here...I smell a bunch of excuses and justifications for this defect which probably had other reasons for it being given. I agree some defects are rather questionable when they are given out, but your attitude and manner of explaining the circumstances and the manner in which the inspection of your car took place, seems to point and a whinging whining justification for your nice new yellow sticker. You did get done for a bunch of stupid reasons which some could say hardly constitute an unroadworthy car. But I'm sick of hearing people whinging that 'oh they got me for this because I'm a P Plater' and 'cops pick on P Platers' - errrr No they don't, they keep a close eye on P Platers.....

If I'm wrong I apologise in advance, but you sound like every other whining twat who comes on here complaining about how mistreated they are by cops.

I have been pulled over once, and got a fine for disobeying the Peer Passenger law. I have since never been pulled over for a random check in my car. Every time I have been pulled over in mates cars, they drive in a way which attracts that much attention to themselves I'm not surprised they get fines and pulled over....

unfortunately mate, if coppers gave warnings to everyone, no-one would fix the defects. By issuing a defect, they are ensuring the vehicle gets fixed
they have to issue you with a defect, what is rough is when they also issue a ticket for driving a defective vehicle, if the defects are only minor
