Hi guys, i got defected in my ute the other day and am now interested to no what the NSW laws are for lowering cars and how the police measure it?
The police i had measured from the center of the wheel to the guard is this correct?
But now people are telling me it is just aslong as ur car is not closer than 100mm to the ground.
Can anyone help me out here.
thanks
i reckon u just have to get pulled up by the wrong copper to get defected for stuff like that, thats like a mate of mine was defected for having 18" rims on his r31 because the copper said that u can only go two inches above the stock standard rim size which is 15" on r31s so... i have also heard the 100mm between the ground and your side rail/skirt theory, it would be interesting to know cause im keen as to lower my vn)

Lowest point of the vehicle to be no less then 100mm from the ground whether that be the exhaust, side skirt etc. Nothing mentioned about wheels to guard measurement that I can find.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
as previously said 100mm from the lowest point is the only thing they can get you for.
but they try other tricks like center of the headlight to ground then say "its too low you cannot see far enough infront of you" and also as you said the centre of the hub to the arch then make up a story about it touching or rubbing or water not being able to escape ALL LIES!!!
if you car is higher than 100 mm take it to a mechanic and get it cleared its easy
mate got done on his pulsar for being 98mm..(just infront of the wheels from the afm front bar)
he maxed out tyre pressure and then got 99mm haha so he had to get it filed back and re sprayed.. they are pricks >.<
Ok that is good to no. What is the deal with vertical ride height?
Yea i got a prick of a copper he is known by heaps of people on the central coast for giving defects to any car he pulls over.

in victoria they also say it has to retain 2/3rds of the original suspension travel, have herd they go by hub to guard in adelaide too.
Not sure on NSW law but what you were measured on was eyebrow height. The centre of the hub to the guard measurment is calculated on retaining 2/3 of the car's original suspension travel. If a car falls below the predetermined height for the car's lowest limit, we get a defect.
Although, I could've sworn that it was only SA left in the dark ages and left with the stupid eyebrow height rule... beats me how an identical car interstate is legal but too low here. Another topic though...

The VZ is here! About time!
Drive over a Coke can and if the front of the car knocks it over, its illegal. And don't for godsake use one of those mini cans you get on flights. I'd drink the Coke first.
Doesn't have to be unroadworthy to get a defect. Police only have to believe it to be. The onus is then on you to prove it is not.
A can is 130mm, if your car sits higher than that, your obvisouly not low enough! Ha!
I dont know where this coke can thing came from because they are 130mm not 100mm
Kinda digging up an older thread but I think it's te best place for this,
Regarding lowering a car, I've found that I'n wa basically the laws are the 100mm clearance(I think this is loaded so with a few people I'n car?) 500mm for headlights unless they are factory lower, and no more than 2/3 travel loss, and no scraping but it also says any change from factory option heights must be get a permit.
What I want to know is.
Has anyone on here been or know someone who has been denied an insurance claim because of modifications (primarily suspension)?
Has anyone lowered their car and gotten it permitted/engineered and can share how they went about it and what products they used etc?
I guess I could handle the risk of not getting my car paid out I'n a crash, but personal injury claims and other vehicle property claims would be something that would stick with ya for a long timehaha
Cheers fellas any help would be greatly appreciated!
Check my car out
