Hey guys, came home last night to find my VP which i bought a week and a half ago got stolen. Along with a $2000 sound system and tools.
They found the car but told me its all smashed in, broken windows and when they found the car they said the whole ground was covered in oil.
I am currently a mechanic apprentice and not earning much at all.
I have not yet seen the car, will be going to check it out at lunch time. If its as bad as the cop said over the phone then im not going to bother bringing it back home.
I would like to know what is the best way to get some money out of the VP.
I am now in desperate need of a car and just curious how i can get the most out of it.
Thanks, Terry

Insurance????????
Nah no insurance, got in registered 2 days ago.
I was also thinking about stripping it but i live in a unit with 3 cars in the driveway so i have no room at all to strip the car.
At the moment i think im going to give it to the wreckers for $250.
2 weeks ago i bought it for $4000 and now going to sell it to the wreckers for $250. I think i have officially hit the bottom of the bucket.
Yeah the cost of getting it back home via tow truck ect ect wouldn't be worth it. I'd just call the wreckers get them to take it away and offer what ever they want for it. Be Done with it.
Your first mistake was paying $4000 for a VN, your second was not insuring it. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
Yea I agree, $4000 seems to be a ridiculous amound to fork over for a VP... but yea a car worth that much isn't worth while getting comprehensive insurance insurance anyways, so that fact you didn't have any doesn't matter I guess...
You really think its going to be that easy? Just imagine earning $350 a week and saving $4000 like that.
When i get my next car which is probably going to be another year from now. The first thing thats going in is a alarm system. Rather spend $1000 on a good alarm then on upgrades.
Let us knows what it's like when you go for a look mate
Will do, the depo gave me a call and said i can come at 3pm to have a look but i cant touch anything because they are going to go over it for finger prints.
They found a hammer and box cutter in the car which is not mine. Do you guys think they would be able to get prints off them?
They can get prints of a spot of spooge these days.
No Insurance on a $4K($5K) car = What were you thinking?
As forso the it's cost you $5K"The first thing thats going in is a alarm system. Rather spend $1000 on a good alarm then on upgrades."
Give the thieving scumbags enough time and an alarm is about as usefull as lighting a match under water....
Scrap or strip it to get some return and Tuff... Learn from it a move on numb nut.
Darcon666, i get the feeling you would be the worst person to talk to about there problems. But thanks for the input, very inspiring stuff.
I honestly can't udnerstand why anyone would suggest getting full comprehensive insurance on a car that is worth $4000... He's an apprentice so obviously a young bloke, therefore has to pay an arm and a leg for insurance! Your literally asking him to pay 25-50% of the cars value on insurance each year... How can that be justified??? Sure in hindsight he would have came out on top seeing as it got stolen, but unfortunately for him he's just been unlucky
Wasn't meant to be rude... But I am a Realist(A person who is aware of and accepts the physical universe, events, etc., as they are; pragmatist)
In the end you didn't have insurance, then the only things you can do is to Scrap, Strip it for parts or fix it, pretty simple in my books. As for inspiration... this is a public forum dude, what did you expect would be some of the responses.
I honestly can't understand you would write that entire post? If the O/P had forked out for insurance, this thread wouldn't be here...
/thread
It can be justified in the sense that his money is hard to come by, so it would be in his best interests to protect it, and insure that his hard earned isn't being jeopardised evertime he walks away from it in a car park.
Sure, its a quarter of the price of the/this car, but any young bloke with full comp insurance is always atleast a $1000, until you build up your no claim bonus then it starts to become resonable. Gotta start somewhere.
And I didn't ask him to do anything, merely stating my opinion. What I would spend MY money on.
Luckily I don't live in an area where my hard earned is jeopardised everytime I walk away from my car... So basically in terms of insurance I just have to worry about making sure that if I have an accident , it isn't my faultIn saying that I do have full comprehensive insurance on my commodore but haven't bothered on an e36 BMW that I use to own. With the commodore I had to bump up the excess to $2100 to even make it worth my while (premium now $977) and I'm 20. The excess is a heck of a lot but I got the car for quite a bit cheaper than it's worth so yea...
Why bother getting full comprehensive, "3rd Party Fire and Theft" would have covered this as well, and probably for half the cost.

I don't live in an area where my hard earned is jeopardised everytime I walk away from it either... But thats not to say I don't visit spots that make me double check that it is 'Deadlocked.'
Obviously, the O/P either lives in, or visited such an area.
He has already stated he would rather pay $1000 for an alarm for his next car, (can only assume - to help make sure it doesn't get stolen - not sure how it will help but) where as I'd prefer to pay $1000 for insurance.
When my Girlfriend got quoted on insurance (couple of months ago) it wasn't half the price, more like 2/3rds the price.
'Full Comprehensive' or 'Fire & Theft' is irrelevant. Both of which the O/P mustn't have had - either of which would've helped the O/P out in this situation.
Then next week, a thread will emerge "I crashed my car (My fault) and only have 3rd party Fire and Theft" - again, irrelevant.
Bottom line, pay to cover your ass.
