I cant see any legitimate reason for someone selling 11 face plates... especially when he says they are "used"

pfft, that's just stupid. most people would know that most faceplates wont work unless their with the original unit.

The only thing l can think of is if he works in the stereo install industry and these are faces left from broken customer units wanting to upgrade for eg.
