Hi all,
Just wondering where the best place to get the windows of my white 1998 VT executive tinted, i have been thinking of going with "tint professor" its going to set me back about $295 to have it done.
35% is the darkest legal and thats what im thinking of getting?
Any other ideas out there?
Matt

35% is the darkest legal, however you can have the passenger/ rear windows darker.
you can go darker if you want, as your car is white it will contrast a darker tint more of course.
if you have existing tint expect to pay for it to be removed also.
theres a few other threads on tinting worth a read on here have a search.
are you sure your allowed to have your sides and rear darker?...why did my brother have to do a dodgy job with solar tint then?..solar tint said they'll put on 25% on all his windows except for front for X amount, but if you get caught by the cops we don't own up to doing the work, but they will warrant the tint job if anything goes wrong...he had to pay in cash and there were no receipts etc..? if they left his front standard and the rest were done "legal" according to you, why did it have to be a bodgy job?

Yeah I don't think you can really legally go darker than 35%, it just seems like police don't seem to hit you up as much if it's only the back ones that are darker
The darkest legal aftermarket tint is 35% for all windows except the front which obviously is not allowed to have any except the strip at the top. Cars that come with darker tint on the rear windows is allowed as it's factory fitted (like the Territory, I think it is).
im not sure about that man, sounds like a disclaimer. wouldve asked for a receipt regardless. The bloke in melb who did my car specified that for legal/ insurance reasons anything on the front has to be no darker than 35%. But the back can go darker, unsure of percentage but mine is 18%. upon saying that there are plenty of people with tints that are 15% or even down to 5%.are you sure your allowed to have your sides and rear darker?...why did my brother have to do a dodgy job with solar tint then?..solar tint said they'll put on 25% on all his windows except for front for X amount, but if you get caught by the cops we don't own up to doing the work, but they will warrant the tint job if anything goes wrong...he had to pay in cash and there were no receipts etc..? if they left his front standard and the rest were done "legal" according to you, why did it have to be a bodgy job?
Copied from vicroads vehical standards information PDF:
Windows
All windows of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens, available to the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a light transmittance of at least 35%. However it is desirable that the light transmittance of windows to the side and ahead of the driver is not reduced below 70%.
hmm..maybe nsw laws are different...there should be a federal law for everything about cars..too much confusion...they should just be straight up, advertise on the news and tv ads that you can go to a website or get a book stating what can and can't be done to your car etc...would make it a hell of a lot easier haha

Id defiantly give Australian auto tint a go. they are located on marondah highway near car city.
Got mine done there and im wrapped with the job and the film is really high quality with a life time guarantee!
that is of course unless you car was made before this rule came out in the mid 90's then you can have it as dark as you wish.
gday guys, i used to work for tint a car as a tinter so if ya have any other questions about tinting i could probably help ya

As far as im aware, legal tint is 35% on sides, 20% on rear. However most places will do darker. Im getting 18% all around done in sydney in a months time and I just emailed them, and got a price straight back
