Well I went to pick my car up from the mechanic after work, service had been completed.
I'd spoken to their secretary during the day explaining that I could only get their about 10-20min after they close at 5:30, she said it was ok because someone is usually still their but if I was any later too call up too make other arrangements.
When I got there, one guy was their and all the cars packed away in the workshop and my car was at the back of the work shop. He said the secretary told them I'd ring by 4:30 to let them know if i was picking my car tonight or not.
So I wasn't able to get my car because it was going to take him 45 Min to get my car out and he didn't have time to get it out...
So I'm at home now without car, plan's all screwed and mighty pissed off that I have not got my car back because of a stupid secretary... and now won't get my car back till what looks like tomorrow night.
What do you think I should do or should I be entitled to something because of their mistake???
Prob not dude, shit happens. Have a whinge to them and see if they'll give you a discount or something but i wouldnt say your dead set Entitled to it..
Yeah sorry dude. I work in a workshop and hate to say it but guys in your situation are the biggest pain. You said yourself, the place shuts at 5.30. Make arrangements to pick it up prior to that or make arrangements to have a courtesy car when you drop it off til you can get back during hours. Fair call though as the secretary shouldnt have told you 20mins after close was ok. Make a complaint when your back and see if you get anything out of them.
Unfortunately life sucks sometimes. Like meatloaf through a straw. These are the days of our lives.
Mate, what do you expect them to do..
It sounds like a honest mistake..
it must have been a HUGE workshop if it was going to take 45 minutes to get out
It's not their mistake, it's yours. Therefore next time you speak to the person in charge of the workshop to organise a collection time instead of the Receptionist. I fail to see why you think you are entitled to a reward if you expect a person to stay back after their set finish time to accommodate you.
It's unfortunate, but sounds like a communication problem between the receptionist and the other worker(s), or they're just lazy bastards.
The receptionist is responsible for dealing with customers and organising shit so that pickups, dropoffs, payments, etc all go smoothly.
If (s)he had of told the others that you were picking up your car shortly after 5.30 - they could have either left your car out the front, or left it at the front of the queue of cars in the shop.
Unfortunately, these guys probably get dicked around all the time wiht people saying "yeah I'll be there 5:30" and never turn up, etc. - So they'd generally just treat everyone as not coming until they show up.
Anyway - put things into perspective. You went one night without your car - it's not like you lost a kidney or something. - I see you're in melbourne so you probably saved yourself a few speeding tickets by not driving last night anyway lol.
If you think it's unprofessional of them, etc - don't spend any more of your money there.
i dont' see how any of this is his fault?..if he said to the secretary that he was gunna be up to 20 mins late after closing time and they said it's fine, and he came up to 20 minutes late and didn't get his car..it's their #### up...and i agree with steev...45 mins to get a car out of a workshop..#### me thats a big workshop...or maybe someone cant park cars in a straight line...

Entitled was probably the wrong choice of word on my part, as i wasn't too happy about the stuff up last night.
but yeah, Shit happens.
it's not a big workshop, they have to squeeze the cars in (cars under cars on hoists and cars squeezed besides each other) because they have a theft problem when they leave cars out at night.
The secretary told you that it would be ok to go in about 20 mins late to pick up your car. it was her resposibility to tell the guys in the workshop that so they could put your car up the front or leave outside like previously mentioned.
I'd ring them up and have a go at her over the phone telling her you're not happy with the events of last night and then ask to speak to her boss and tell him the situation and just let him know you're not happy about it.
might not be able to do anything for your case, but will let them know they stuffed up and maybe not do it again to the next person.
that's about all you can do mate.

My advice is that if you like this mechanic (except for this one incident) and you intend to keep using them, then don't get up in their grill over one tiny incident. Maybe just mention it in passing but why make an issue out of it, it certainly won't change the past.

Pick your car up before closing time, not that hard really. Businesses have opening & closing times for a reason, because like you, the boss/workers have a life of there own outside of work...Shits me when people can't make arrangements to pick up there car before closing time. We get it all the time, most of the time they don't turn up to get there car anyway.
when you busy in a workshop shit gets misheard or miscomunicated, its not a big deal as others have said, most the time the people dont turn up and my boss and i would wait there for the oxygen theives lol
if you do decide to make a mountain out of a hill and complain or abuse the girl face to face (or over the phone) trust me they will remember you.....receptionists always remember lol and you prob wont get as quality work done next time cuz you will be seen as "its only that farck heads car" etc
demand fleet or trade pricing for the inconvenience haha, worth a try haha

Suck it up
It was just a screw up nothing major, nothing was broken etc so there isnt really any point of making a big issue outta this. Just have a qiuiet word with the boss when u grab ur car, simple easy and effective
If I rock up to macca's after closing time I don't bitch about it cause I can't get me a quarter pounder with cheese....just saying
if you ask for fleet pricing...here alot of the time they are actuly charged more as they take 3+ months to pay there bill
If you genuinely made an arrangement that was ok at their end as well as yours, then they reneg on the arrangement, and you lost out because you didn't have a car all weekened, I'd be pissed as well and feel entitled to some recompense.
What if there were places you had to be over the weekend and were forced to taxi it instead ?
Find the manager. Explain. Let him know you were BADLY incovenienced. If they offer you recompense - great but DON'T ask for it, or you will appear to be mercenary.
More then likely get a "really sorry".
Had a similar thing happen to me. Just mentioned it was a bit shit and left it at that really
dzach i wouldnt be paying for the 2500 dollar service anytime soon!!! just for screwing you around id screw them around! well you already since we discussed this so its pointless me saying it.....
BUT UPLOAD THE SERVICE NOTES see what people recon about the pricing!
