Default Repairable write off, South Aus questions.

My brother is looking at a car that is listed as a repairable write off although neither of us are sure what is involved and the costs once fixed to get it back on the road.

I would have a guess at a pit stop in Regency Park and a sum of cash involved?

Hope someone can let me know, he plans on buying it tomorrow and for $1000 car and maybe $200-300 worth of fixing I think its a bit of a waste if it costs him more money and time than just buying a car with no damage.

Yea in my opinion I wouldn't bother cause you really don't know what your getting with a repairable write off at the end of the day. Realisticly their only good for one thing and that's parts, cause more often then not they will be more trouble than it's worth to even get the thing road worthy and registrated. What type of car is it anyways?

Yea definitely not worth it if there are THREE damaged panels, I'd imagine that being a hell of a lot more than a couple of hundred to fix ay more like a couple of grand possibly...

They write off a car when the damage is worth more than the car. A VT is worth a lot more than $200 - $300 which is what your Brother seems to think is the cost to fix.

75% of the cars value is deemed a total loss (write off).
