hi all just wondering what the differance between the 3.3 and the 3.0ltr is? i have a screwed head gasket and maybe head and i can get another motor for $100 but it is the 3.3ltr motor. is this going to be a big drama to change or can i use the fuel injection from the 3.0 and put it on the 3.3?
just asking because this is the first commodore i have owned and im unsure on these engines and dont wanna commit to anything before i get some advice from other people who no whats going on.
cheers

they are completely different engines and not a simple swap. also the 3.3 will be a step backward. probably better off trying to find another 3ltr or if you want to upgrade then maybe a V6 or turbo 3ltr

you wont legally be able to put an older motor into your car...emissions and such won't pass. RB30's dont cost much, i'd just put one back in.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
plus the 202 runs push rods no thx on a inline engine
thanks for the info guys. i found another 3ltr motor that i can get for $100 but it is like 5 hours away and needs a timing belt and oil pump gasket and maybe a sump gasket. and it has been sitting for about 8-10 months. so would i be better trying to find a motor out of a wreck or one that is still in the car running? i have to weigh up the cost of fuel getting up there and back then the few repairs it needs and then if there is anything else wrong with it as you wouldnt no until it is in the car and started.
if it is out of the car it will be easy to work on then you can check other things on the engine once you have cleaned it up and repaired it
it will be better then any other second handy you'll find but watch out it might have some bad probs like why dose it need a timing belt what did it snap which would result in the engine being f...ed
yeah thats what i was thinking aswell. im probably better off getting a motor out of a car that i can hear running and take for a drive, but just running would be ok. i might just keep looking around for a short motor and see what i can find. i dont need any manifolds or alt or what ever as i already have it all so be pretty easy swap over and easier to clean the new one up with nothing on it.
well thats a good point but the twin cam turbo awd skyline also worked ok i know which i would prefer but any would be great
