    Default Young Commodore Drivers....

What is going on in the heads of young males behind the wheel of a Commodore these days? I do a bit of daytime driving in my job, the instances I see where a young male is doing crazy stuff behind the wheel of a Commodore is alarming. Tonight I was on the expressway going home in the L/H lane sitting on the speed limit when this kid comes flying up my arse in his $2,000 VT (with obligatory Chev badge & Southern Cross sticker on rear window), screams around me cutting someone off in the process, then sits just in front doing the same speed as me. Do they do this stuff to impress other Commodore drivers?

My intention isn't to categorise all young males as idiots but what does it take to make these deadshits wake up to themselves? Look at the death toll or watch the news report, a high majority of these young Australians killed or injured were driving an older Holden Commodore. As a parent of a teenager it worries the hell out of me that my child (currently on their L's) is going to be out there amongst these losers.

Sorry mate, I'm not specifically referring to those on P plates & I realise that there's idiots of all ages in all different cars out there but it seems like those driving a Commodore are a majority. Listening to the news last week I heard about a young guy killing 2 mates in his car (he survived), I said to my wife "bet you he's in a Commodore". Sure enough....

They do it because they 'know' it won't happen to them, it only happens to people that don't know how to drive, they 'know' how to drive...

And, like its been said, its definately not only P platers, and not only commodore owners.

What makes me laugh though is if I drive consistantly on the speed limit, around corners or coming upto intersections that require slowing/stopping, (maybe 1 or 2 kays over) theres all these do gooders out to have my licence revoked, because apparently its dangerous to drive at those speeds..

But when I drive consistantly 5ish kays slower than the speed limit, around corners, or coming upto intersetions that require slowing/stopping, (or to a maximum of the speed limit) theres a billion and one cars of all demographics/makes/models/ages aching to go flying past me and 'have a look' at whats taking me soo long??

    Like wtf??

Bottom line, it doesn't matter how people drive, some people will always find something to whinge at...

O/P, if he didn't hit you, or or almost hit you etc, don't worry about it, theres always going to be another person cutting you off and driving like a ########. At worst, if you feel the need report him to the police.

Agreed, I NEVER go over the limit if I can help it and I get overtaken all day long.

    To the OP:
I know you said you are aware it's not just young teens and it'd not just commodore drivers, and this is my point. It just so happens that the Commodore is one of the most popular, affordable cars for people my age so you are always going to see more commodores and more di**heads driving them. You seem like a decent enough bloke and I understand the point you are making and the fact you are worried about your child. Hopefully you have enough confidence and trust in your child (which i'm sure you do) to know that they'll be doing the right thing behind the wheel. As you pointed out though, alot of the time it's not what you're doing behind the wheel it's the other idiots on the road you have to look out for. The only thing you can do IMO is teach your child to be CAREFUL and drive defensively because you never know what other people are going to do.

    Cheers, Chilly

There are idiots driving all makes and models these days. Everything front the fully sick VL turbo with a wikid BOV to BMW X5's with soccer mums.

The reason so many of these young idiots chose commodres, is because their cheap, their common and their good bang for buck at the end of the day.

It's unfortunate that these select few are the ones that draw negative attention to the rest of normal holden drives.

People won't notice a commodore that's driving by the rules and safely, but they will notice the commodore being driven by an idiot who's a "good driver" that flies through an intersection sideways.

Want annoys me mainly is these idiots have such thick skulls, both the ones in commodores and in the bimmers, that they don't understand that they're NOT better drivers than everyone else and they can end up killing someone.

I've said it before, I don't car if one of these idiots wraps themselves around a tree and ends up a vegetable, won't be much of a change from normal really, what really gets my bloody going is when because of them someone innocent is hurt or killed.

    /Rant.

the only reason you rekon its "males behind the wheel of a commodore" is because they are the most common car on the road due to price, bang for buck, aesthetics and sheer props lol

I'm not afraid to say it, but some speed limits in Victoria are ridiculous. A 60 zone on a road that could easily be 80+....

That being said though, Victorian roads are shocking. Slightly accentuated by low springs and a firm ride, but on the whole, the bumpyness, the unveness is generally just the most annoying part of driving, probably even more so than other cockheads on the road.

Simple fact, you can't get behind the wheel without getting pissed off at something or rather.

ahh man..we get idiots in ricers, barely ever see a young fella in a commodore unless its a vr or something...even today comeing home on henderson road (ingleburn) the speed limit is 70, and i'll admit i let the car roll up to about 75ish going down the hill/bridge there, and the guy next to me in his pulsar doing about the same speed as me though i wanted to race him:S, so he took off reaching atleast 100..i reckon he got up to about 120 and #### me the body roll on that thing going round the big roundabout there HAH..oh well...it's never gunna stop...

I'm not meaning to sound like I'm just pissed at this one incident, I see so many similar ones each week, this one is the one that is fresh in my mind. I'm just frustrated that the message doesn't seem to get through to them. Reporting them to the Police wouldn't do anything either.

Yeah I agree, if they want to do that to themselves then I'm all for it, one less oxygen thief on the road. But as Chilly said above, it's when they kill an innocent driver/passenger that makes this all the more wrong. Can you imagine driving like an idiot & causing the death of someone? They just need to stop & think about this. But they won't....

I'm a parent and i carnt wait to teach my son how to do a burn out and slide a car but to also teach him that it isnt cool to do it any way coz there is a time and place and let him know that yes by doing stupid stuff some one could get killed.
I remember being in cars doing realy stupid stuff when i was younger and i think it would have happend to you too so dont be so judgemental coz it will happen in every generation and not even the police can stop it. i think it's the parents who should take some responcerbility to teach there child when and were is appropiate and not just by saying it to them at the dinner table but taking them to the drags or driffting comps your self and help them do up a car that they can respect.
My method might not be the right one but my parents did it me and it realy helped me from doing silly things.

I remember being young and stupid and throwing the car around........out at the back beach where there was plenty of sand and gravel and trees and no one else that could get hurt or killed coz i thought i was a better driver than other people that have had their licenses for at least 10 more years with just as much experince on me.........

You wanna be a dick on the road, don't do it to show off, coz that's when you WILL get hurt majority of the time, and even take someone else with you........

Some people are jerks and no amount of telling them to stop will change a damn thing until they do end up killing someone else...........but even then it won't be their fault.....

My daughter is getting a Mini Cooper S.........she has sat in one already (is 13 in 3 weeks) and she is really looking forward to it. At least i know she won't be a dick in it, as she values the thought of us buying her a car too much.

Driving a car is a priviliedge and not an entitlement............i wish some people would learn this.

Huh? I'm confused... did you or did you not do silly things?

But I agree, there is nothing wrong with teaching kids how to control a car in a burnout or a drag race, so long as you teach them that there is a time and place, the roads on a friday night is not it.

I still say there should be an IQ test as part of the driving test. Weed out some idiots.

i love nothing more than thrashing the #### out of a car. thats why i buy a 200 dollar bomb and flog the shit out of it on my mums farm. ive also been in a roll over, 3 and a half times in a hilux. and the truth is i got the shakes up when i was driving with a p plater i didnt know.

people dont understand limitations. it doesnt matter how gooda driver you are if you slide off the road at 130kms an hour.

As sure as the sun will rise in the morning. A commodore with a P plate means a young person up to no good. Sure, sometimes they drive normally and blend in with the traffic, but at other times, the windows are down, the subs are up and the right foot is set to 'kill'. It's just something a Toyota camry or a Mitsushitty magna will never possess. A Commodore is the hoon's choice of of vehicle.

Believe me. I'm one of them.

Yep, & the time & place is the track or strip. However, & here's where the issue lies, these deadshits would never venture off the public roads even if they could scrounge up the $100 it costs for a run at the track. They have no real desire to learn how to drive properly in a safe environment.

VzVzVz.....not something i'd be being proud of mate, one thing you should never do is be proud or slash it up all over the place that you are a hoon, coz it's people like that that seem to have the least disregard for other road users that can get them or others killed or seriously injured.......ESPECIALLY motorbike riders, when young "hoons" think they own the roads and start weaving in and out of traffic.......it's always those people that use the excuse "i didn't see them".
