This is not a for sale post, or even an EOI.
My grandpa passed away earlier in the year, and the time has come to sell some of his MANY cars.
We have most of them sorted out, but can't find a decent guide for a near perfect HX sedan, goldish in colour, perfect interior, only the slightest marks on the paint, 140(ish) k's on the clock, auto 202, 50th anniversary model. Been in the family since new
.
Only problem is that it hasn't been started in 5 years or so, but it always ran fine before
Also I thought his red, 4 speed AMS was too good to let slip away, so I'll be picking that up in the next month or so...
Again, mint condition inside, no rust, just needs paint on the boot and bonnet. Hasn't been started in nearly 10 years though.
I'll start a thread on that when I pick it up

HX's are worth nothing these days, I'll give you $200
Is it a Prem or Kingswood?
Unfortunately, true. The HX was probably the worst traditional Holden ever released for its time. It did nothing well and some things very poorly. It wasn't popular when new and the only thing going for the one you have would be its rarity. (Think about that - when did you last see an HX on the road?)
If it is as clean as you have indicated, it might be worth a couple of grand to a collector but as a daily, it would be a dog.
I'd have it if it's mint, i'd also drive it daily no worries. They may not do things well, but it would still drive better than any Commodore ever made.
Also, it must be a 30th anniversary, not 50th.
I'm restoring an HX LE ATM, i'd give my left testical to own it...
Edit: OP, got any pics?
send it to NZ its worth at least $10000NZ
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
cant wait to see the AMS, one of my favourite fords.
I don't have any photos. They are all 4 hours away from me atm. I was just discussing it with my uncle on the phone today and he was thinking it would fetch around $7-10k, but not sure. He thought it was worth more than the falcon anyway. I'm just trying to get a rough idea to let him know if an offer he gets is silly or worth taking
Could be the 30th anniversary, I haven't seen the badge in a few years.
My great grandma drove it daily until she passed away in the early 90's, since then it has have very occasional use only.
Its sitting on a farm with the XC (now mine), a mint original FX (which we are hanging onto), a HJ ute (i think it is) and 2 very poor condition 30's cars that I think are sold.

Soooo, Prem or Kingswood?
I seriously doubt you will get anywhere near 7K for it. Unfortunately, other than being clean and low K, it hasn't really got a lot going for it, it's only a 202 Trimatic. So, it's not really anything special or sort after. If it was a Prem, 308 Turbo 400, then yeh bit more sort after and worth more coin. If it was a ute, you'd walk in 7k or more any day of the week.
You're right it's a 50th anniversary, it's the anniversary of GM being in AUS not of the first Holden like i thought they were.

Probably a pretty good deal IMO.
Just did a bit of research, it's definately a Kingswood.
Blown V6 Hatch
I realise it was only a comment, and you're entititled to your opinion, but the HX definitely was never a better drive than any Commodore. Have you ever driven a basic HX Kingswood? They were friggin' awful, with massive plough understeer, wallowy ride, the worst version of the red 6 ever issued as it strugled to meet ADR 27A....I drove them when they were brand new and they were terrible back then. If they struggled to live with the emissions requirements when leaded was the go, I can't imagine what theyéd be like trying to run on unleaded today. A daily driver today? Not without heaps of work, thanks.
Its hard to say without seeing the vehicle. A rough price would be between $6000 & $9000 depending on several things. Things like wether its completely original, all chrome is complete & undamaged, oil leaks are mininal, interior is original & untouched or damaged etc. Its an anniversary edition so that helps a little. I know of one guy who had a WB Statesman with 50000kms on the clock, was a little rough here & there but it was really minor things & completely original, had service history etc,he sold it for $11000 to a collector. To the right person its worth the right money,if some blokes offered you around 5-6 grand for it as it is,then to me it makes me kinda think its worth more completely up & running. To all the fellow kiwis answering saying send it to NZ,yeap,it would be worth a fair bit over there as good examples of old holdens are harder to find there than here but it would cost more than its worth for you to send it over. Get it all tip top then advertise in several places including overseas & see what happens.
A pessimist is a man who thinks all woman are bad. An optimist is a man who hopes they are
It's funny you say that, because i just drove a plain Jane HX Kingswood about 10 Minutes ago at work....We'll have to agree to dis-agree on this one, because I stand by my comment that it was better to drive than any Commodore (obviously missing the mod cons, but the driving experience was better IMO). The 6 cylinder means nothing to me, because the first thing i'd do if i owned one would be to pull the 6 out, throw it in the nearest scrap metal bin and replace it with a 308 and Turbo 400. I'd have no problems driving any HQ-WB range Holden daily, in fact i might be replacing my Commodore pretty shortly with another HQ-WB.
Well, we don't disagree totally. That's what I'd do with the 202 as well.
Everything is original. Seats were covered their whole lives, every issue was looked at by a good mechanic (my family is VERY fussy about cars), I assume it has a full service history. Has a sun visor, but I assume that came from factory
We aren't chasing top dollar for anything, but all the money goes to Grandmas retirement so it all counts
Being in the middle of nowhere doesn't help with finding a decent buyer either

What i wuld do is get it up & running, give it a full service(oil, fuel & oil filters, grease everything,do the trans fluid & filters, diff oil etc) Then go over it with a fine tooth comb, make sure everything is how you think it should be. The sunvisor did come out on some as an optional extra, give it the full bells & whistles clean, spit polish etc. Essentially try to get it as close as possible to new condition. It will mainly take time more than anything else. Once its at the stage that if you didnt know any better you would think its brand new(which based on what you say wont be hard),advertise it. If its as good as it sounds with all the original paperwork(original plates is always a bonus to)it doesnt matter what model,it matters more thats its so original & low km they will come. It may take a little time, you may have to entrust it to a storage facility close to a major city but in the end if it doesnt get at least 9 grand at the minimum i would be very surprised.![]()
