I had standard shocks in my VU Ute which is of standard height, the rear shocks went a couple months ago so i got a pair of new Monroe GT shocks for but its FAR from what it used to be, now its really bouncy like its lowered. Its not stupidly bouncy like a lowered car with standard shocks but just not right and sure as hell not like it was.
Does anyone know what the go is here ? Are the Monroe shocks not the best ? On this note does anyone know how much the genuine shocks are from holden ?
Good chance its a different rebound rate.
Did the Ute have FE2 by chance?
Im unsure on the cost of genuine shocks, a fortune no doubt.
Im not sure if its FE2, Its IRS in a 02 Storm Ute
when you say bouncy is it a harder bounce or a softer bounce?
Hard bouncy mate
Maybe the shocks compress harder? I'm not too sure, but my car has a really rough bounce because it's lowered.
when we fit new shocks sometimes customers complain it rides harder, not saying this is the problem that you have but you get use to the worn shocks being soft and when you put new ones in that work the way there supose to. what did you replace them with?
Mate new cars are not hard bouncy and there not worn out, and as stated i used Monroe GT shocks
Bump any more help ?
i think youre confusing bouncy-ness with stiffness.
if its bouncy it will be rebounding too fast (not enough rebound dampening) which doesnt seem likely with new shocks. bouncyness is usually something that happens with stuffed shocks, or if you have a d22 navara brand new OE shocks.
what you're describing is just overall stiffness, you can feel more small bumps in the road compared with the standard shocks, but its not bouncy. did you get the right shocks for the application? as its a storm ute it would probably have fe2 suspension.
suspension is all about compromise, and now that it rides stiffer with the shocks you will feel more of the changes in the road surface. this is a good or a bad thing, depends on what sort of driver you are. if you really hate it that much go buy genuine ones.
You will find that it is stiffer with the new shocks because you were used to how soft the old ones were. Just because they don't leak or break doesn't mean they aren't stuffed. The effective life of a shock absorber (or damper) is about 40-50 000 kms. Genuine ones will feel about the same, just not gas filled.
