Berlina vs Commodore
Hey all, i am completely new to the commadore scene save for the fact i can identify what model is what from pics. I want to knowo what is the differance between a Berlina and a Commodore. I am thinking of buying a V8 VL Berlina as my first commodore but i want to know what the differance is.

a Berlina is a Commodore.
There are different models that you can get like:
Executive
Berlina
Calais
Just some examples but they are all commodores. Dependign which one you get will determine what features the car has.

Not to sure about the VL, but in other models the berlina has power windows and airbags, abs, etc.
Im not sure the difference between an Executive and Berlina in a VL

VL SL - Base model
VL Executive - A bit better than SL (has power steering lol)
VL Berlina - Half calais half Exec basicly
VL Calais - Most luxurious
Berlina has (among other things)
- Better quality interior
- Different tail lights/centre garnish (black centre garnish, black stripes across tail lights giving them a darker look)
- Rev tacho dash (exec has a clock dash)
Hmm that's all I can think of now but I know there's gotta be more, mechanicly they're all the same!

So if i was to pick up a rust-free V8 VL Berlina with a slighty faded paint job, mild cam, extractors, performance head, larger carby, sony head unit, engine not running (not sure why yet) for $500 then it would be a bargain?

Yeah well as soon as i find out what is wrong with the engine i will let you all know. I have always been a comodore hater, always jap rides for me, or tough valiants, but i have always, always had a soft spot for the VL (probably cause of the nissan engine under the hood....awesome).

no no, nissan specialise in making straight 6 engines...why do you think the VL was the only commodore to come optional with a turbo....nissan chucked in the RB30DE which is just a bigger skyline engine...and all skylines had optional turbos too.

the v8 wasn't from nissan though. Your buying a VL Berlina with a v8. You said the reson you like the VL is ebcause of the nissan motor. But you won't have a nissan motor.
Correct me if im wrong, i dont have the facts just what i've always thought.

The v8 belina for $500 is cheap I have seen them sell for $4000 with faded paint,
Nissan never released a skyline turbo in Australia (god knows why?) and the straight 6 is the rb30e without turbo or the rb30et with turbo. the rb30de is a motor that is created from grafting a dohc head onto the single cam rb30e block. nissan never built an rb30de.
