Default VHT Night shade How to:

Okay guys so occasionally I'm seeing people asking about night shade and what is it what does and
how do I do it ect ect.
Night shade is illegal, though from people I know who have it have never been in trouble with it, but if your acting like a di*khead you will get pulled up on them. I personally have blacked out my front and back lights and never been in trouble

Well anyway I'll just give you the low down of where to get it and how to use it

    1. If you have a spare $16 you can get it from autobarn. Its usually around 15-20bucks

    2. you have to be 18 to purchase it!

    3. DO NOT by just normal spray paint. that is not a *tint*

    4. Once you have decided on what you want to spray you either spray your whole light or mask it of
    - To mask it off firstly go over the bit you want to keep normal with masking tape.
    - Shade around the edges so you know where to cut.
    - Now this is optional. I used a stainly knife to just my section out. I dont recommend this as it scratches your light

    5. remove your headlights from your car. Its pretty simple, unscrew the screws in the back located on the lights take the lights out and if you have a VT/VX just pull them out, can be quite tricky but you wonte break anything.

    6. Throughly clean your lights with a soft towel and maybe some windex or something until dry or even water. Note: I didn't do this i just wiped them down and It was a big mistake

    7. Once you have finished cleaning them you can start spraying, stand about 15-20cm and do a light coat over them untill you see the tint come through. DO NOT touch the wet paint or else you will have ur own little finger print detail. Let it dry for 10-20 minutes

    8. do another coat if you wish, again lighty spraying from left to right. Note: it is not a graffiti wall!

    9. once youve done 2 coats let it dry and enjoy your ride

    10. DO NOT do more than 3 coats or else you will not be able to see your lights.

IF you want to do your headlights I suggest just do 1 coat as I did but I also did a dark border around the circles on my vt. I hope this helps, your lights can look awesome if you do it properly

hmmm Im not 100% sure about garnish, but I have seen it done and it looks awesome. I would defiantly try it if I had my VT garnish still.

Its up to you man. I reckon it would work, I dont see why it would

Sorry to thread mine, but Nightshade is not illegal. If you can see illuminated lights at night from 20 metres away, its legal. Black spray paint however, IS illegal.

Actually that is not correct. It isn't just distance thats measured, its colour also. Once the lense is sprayed, it changes colour. Rear facing is red yes but it has to be red within certain parameters within the Trichromatic Co-ordinates.

It doesn't matter where in Australia you live as its an ADR and it doesn't matter if you are lucky enough not to get pulled over. If you have an accident, your insurance will be wiped without question as the car is deemed unroadworthy.

    Cheers

*sigh* painting ANYTHING on lights is illegal. they go through rigorous luminescence tests which cost tonnes of money before they get ADR approved for road use. changing one small dynamic changes the outcome of the test, therefore rending the lights unfit for road use. its got ZERO to do with colour. or "seen from a distance" you cant change the dynamic of the light at all legally.

not to mention it looks ridiculous

Luminescence (or more correctly, intensity measured in cd +/-) is how the light is measured to be "seen from a distance". Position is another test.

COLOUR yet another. Otherwise you could potentially see 1000's of different shades of colour of every car.

Every lamp, (Red amber and white) must fall within the trichromatic coordinates guidelines. It's also my understanding that these tests are internationally standard but I could be wrong.

    Cheers

well just to say my view, ive had nightshade on my headlgihts and taillights since last august and never once been in trouble with them, last week I took my taillights out and put vt series 2 ones in, but my headlights faded a lot and i re did them and now i dont want them i want just normal ones again. but they are awesome to look at plus ive never been defected and i know a few policeman who think they look cool but it depends on who you get really.

you actually painted the outside of the headlight? why wouldnt you pull them apart and paint the same area but on the inside on the reflector like later model ss headlights, would look heaps better...
