hi, i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with diesel motors?

well ive got 1987 mazda e2200 she aint running. I had her running took her for a drive and i was stopped and idling then all of a sudden she conked out. i lifted the seat and there was smoke coming from the starter motor. now it wont even turn over.... could this possibly be the solinoid or the starter motor. also i think the alternator is shot to because its killed 3 batteries. thanks any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the solenoid/starter to me...if that was buggered, it would have flattened the battey easy... beacuse when it goes, it has burnt the insulation from the copper wires inside......they short out against each other...... flat battery.......( and no start tha motor !!!)..... :rat:

also ive been reading up on the motor and its either a s2 which has a cast head or a r2 which has an alloy head ... but i think it is the s2... can anyone verify this for me?

cant help but i shouldnt think it matters what head it has nor what she drinks. electrics are electrics when it comes to alternators and starters. see how you go with the given advice....

a diesel should be able to run no matter if the battery is dead or not, unless it's got electronic injection like the new cruisers. the only thing that would probably kill it is if it has an electronic control unit that controls the fuel pump ie. shuts off the fuel when you turn off the key.

got it fixed...turns out that the bracket on the altenator was snapped and u could turn around about an inch and a half.
