    Default Cats shagged?

My Mrs. picked me up from the airport the other night in the Statesman after a month in Baghdad and straight away I noticed that the car was louder than usual. It also has a nasty rattle/vibration underneath at low speeds while under load (e.g turning into a car parking space) and the other night she said while she was sitting in the car park after work talking to someone (idling while stopped in gear) the car almost conked out.

    Any ideas?

Possibly the substrate in a cat has dislodged and is shifting round in there. That's not uncommon.

When idling does it make any unusual noises from that area (outside the car)?
Depending if its melted or the insulating blanket is gone....
But I would say catalytic converter from what you have told us.

Uh no, I can't afford a massive fine from EPA and it sounds like arse

Turns out it wasn't the cats, one of the rear mufflers is on it's way out and the noise I could hear underneath is because when it was getting repaired the neglected to put a rubber hanger back on.
