Gday peoples,
On the front I have RE92s - full tread, slightly uneven balance (have to hold steering wheel a little to the left)
On the rear I've got kumho kh18 (retreads) - off a mates wrecked VS. he had them on the front. 60%
I was wondering if it would be beneficial to put the RE92s on the back and the kumhos on the front, the RE92s have alot more tread and the rear wheels wear more than the front so yeahh.
Would the Kumhos give better handling that the bridgestones? I took a roundabout today and it was screech city, i felt like an idiot, even if it was just me there. Definitely need advice
I have used both and think the Khumo gave better grip on my vs, however i wouldnt put a retread anywhere near my car, let alone on the front. So i'd probably want them to stay on the back.
What size are you tyres/wheels?

Kumho KH18 aren't retreads...
Perhaps what you have is a retread on a Kumho KH18 casing which makes them significantly different to a new Kumho KH18. Basically a retread can be put on any casing. If a Pirelli P-Zero was retreaded it would no longer be a Pirelli P-Zero if you get my drift.
Leave the retreads on the back - if they blowout you at least have steering and brake control.
On a side note, 'your steering wheel to the left' issue is not related to balance it is related to wheel alignment, which could also explain the screeching around roundabouts. My advice is to get yourself a wheel alignment.
ok, thanks very much for your help.
sweetfu: they are all 205/65/R15 - until i find one more vx ss rim haha
oh, and i might as well mention -- When the old tyres were on the steering was PERFECT straight. However the front left and both rear wheels were all wearing on the tread markers. The front right was the spare that dad put on before i got my license which is pretty much 100%. Since matching the front left with a new RE92 that my mate kindly donated me, the steering has pulled to the left.
So would it be likely that the guys at ultra tune aligned the wheels so that the difference in tread wear was accounted for on the last service the car had?
and where would the best place to get wheel alignment done for best price? ie is there any of the big knobs ( ultra tune/ bob jane ect) who are known to overcharge?
I've had RE 92's. I think I'd prefer the retreads. RE92's are a basic and very ordinary tyre chucked on standard cars for Noddy drivers. "RE 92" and "grip" should never be mentioned in the same sentence.
Irregular wear on a front tyre can affect the tracking of a car, even if the alignment is correct.
