Default Drain cooling system before removing serpentine belt?

    Hi guys,

Was reading my gregories manual, and it said to drain the cooling system before removing the drive belt, why is this?

    Thanks.

You don't need to do any such thing mate. Just go ahead and pull the tensioner down and pull the belt off (draw a picture of the belt layout so its easy to put back on) or the book probably has a picture in it. Gregories arnt always... practical come common sense. Good luck mate.

The gregorys VS V6 manual I have basically says, to remove the serpentine belt, use a 15 mm spanner to turn the tensioner to loosen the belt and then remove it..Nothing is mentioned about draining the coolant. What model is your gregorys book for?

maybe if you were doing a water pump? drain coolant, take the serpentine belt off, take water pump off?...is that why you need to take the belt off...otherwise i wouldn't be draining the coolant...theres no reason to.

Yeah, sounds rather unneccesary and a little unusual.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
