Hey guys,
Was just wondering if cops are still cracking down on hearing loud cars and booking them anymore or not?
You see subaru's and other jap craps with cannons on them and they don't seem to ever get booked. Anyone on here ever get booked lately for having their car being too loud?
If you have, how did you get caught, them pulling you over or and RBT or a random inspection thing?
Also wondering what dB reading you got or the system you have on your car?
Just asking as i have just tested my car...![]()
I'm been at lights next to cops and they have never cared. Never once been asked or told about my exhaust. And only once even been pulled over for a 'random' breathe test, all the other times have been full traffic stops, where every car is pulled over.

Never tested, its 2.5" system with front through muffler and rear resonator. Fairly loud and fairly sick of it, seemed like a good idea when I was 18yo.

ow owk kool, mines a bit more than that to make it loud, wouldn't imagine you would get in trouble for something like that at all lol
Cops are most likely very blase to V6 commies with loud exhausts, see a million of them every day.

Unless its totally retarded, you're generally pretty safe.
^ Agreed, if your stupid and run straight through pipes with no mufflers or anything, or have exhausts dumped at the diff or earlier, than you deserve anything you get. One muffler and maybe a resonator, and drive normally, then I don't think the cops care to much, unless you purposely piss them off.

Most of the cop's that have pulled me over are more concerned with bald tyres and things like that. They couldn't care how loud it is. Although in saying that technically any after market exhaust in QLD is defectable due to you changing the exhaust in order to bypass manufacturers emissions (whether it be noise or pollutants). Or some big long term like that. As said though if you be a smart ass to cops expect them to defect everything and anything they can.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
My exhaust is about 105db with the limit 90, and Ive never had a problem even the cops don't even look at me, the trick is don't do stupid shit like rev the guts out where you shouldn't.

I wouldn't assume they would pull you over unless as previously stated it was stupidly loud.
It isn't too hard to tell by ear if something is well over the legal limit.
I've found that if its louder than average, legal or not, they will more than likely pull you over for a random breath test, check your lisence status or give your car an inspection for road worthy-ness.
I guess just be careful, and if you must have it illegal then try to limit it a bit.
We all know that cops will try to book us for whatever they can if they see reason.

What I have noticed happening in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, might be happening else where as well is that they are setting up random breath tests and EPA and roadworthy checks together, we had a big one here in Nunawading recently where they closed Maroondah highway and directed cars into the RBT then moved you onto the roadworthy and EPA checks, the EPA were doing the noise testing and they had police in blue overalls doing the roadworthys, also had Imigration there as well. Big right up in the local paper, apparently they caught heaps of unroadworthy/unregistered etc. The article said they were planning more operation like this as it was a huge sucess.
up in melton a few years ago they used to take rego numbers of loud or done up cars and send the person a letter demanding they produce their car at the police station so they could do about 50 in a saturday i know i was made to produce mine they nearly all got canarys except mine but it cost me a fair bit of cash in the three days to get it rwc and quiet not sure if they still do it though.
They are a lot tougher on these matters in area's like Melton though as there are a much greater number of "hotted up" cars, in other words 'illegal' cars and 'hoon' cars. I got a bit of a questionable canary in Noble Park recently, same situation really,
But basically if they see fit to pull you over for whatever reason, large or small, they will. Best thing is to try and eliminate the attention or making sure you have the funds and resources to back yourself up quickly if need be, as stated in the end of the comment above.
i got a single muffler on my VK, drones like a mofo and is pretty loud. been pulled over a bunch of times for random breath tests, but they never batted an eyelid at the car.
also, my mate who has "jap crap with a cannon" got a letter in the mail saying he needed to go do a noise test. it seems even if the cops dont pull you over, they can still dick you via royal mail.
but as mentioned, drive like a dick and im sure they will make life difficult.
I think it generally depends on what area you live in and many other factors.
At the end of the day you can never fully answer this question, it all depends on your driving patterns, the attitude of the copper and most importantly the attitude of yourself.
But to say ricers don't get EPA letters is untrue, my friend has a subara with a full STI system that is ridiculously loud, like the loudest car i have heard. He drove through a booze bus no worries, a week later got a letter demanding an inspection. They do bite you on the ass these coppers.
Oh well, he has the loud system back on it anyway.
If its that loud its not an STi exhaust system. they're almost as quiet as the Standard WRX exhaust.
lol, they sound similar. Been there done that. Let me guess got a dirty big cannon on the back?
I've had a half system on the 5 litre in my ute for over a year, not 1 problem with the cops. Never even been pulled over in it.
I will say though, that a 5 litre with a single 2.5" half system that has a decent quality muffler is quieter than a 2.5" sports exhaust with no rear resinator and a straight through muffler, it also gives a much better note IMO.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for a V6 though, they only ever sound average at best no matter what system you put on it...They always sound there best when they are quiet-ish, they always sound shit when they're loud (and attract unwanted attention, obviously).
