Default legal implications of a gutted out cat converter

Hey just wondering what the legal implications of having a cat thats gutted.

Im asking cos when I took mine heaps of the shit inside fell out. I heard there is like a $10 000 fine for not having one.

But what if its my stock one that looks perfectly normal but has none of the filtering stuff inside?

And how it going to affect the sound of the car if its fully gutted?

    Thanks

No, Its Illegal, If They test your exhaust Gas output during a random road side check or a rego check, and does not comply, you will be fined big time, esp if they remove it and fined nothing in it at all. Look for a High Flow cat that still complies for your engine.

They use laser thermometers to check them, the cat gets allot hotter then the rest of the exhaust. That said, if you plead ignorance on the road side you're likely to be defect and given a chance. After that you can expect to be raped up the arse.

They also use rods that go into the exhaust, seem them do it to my car during a Rego check, Yes NSW are fussy with cars lol, cant remember what the tools called though.

That's to check the emission's. I used to live in Balina and never had that done.

Most common is the heat test.

I think you would have to be very unlucky to get caught.Ive never even heard of anyone being caught and/or fined for using a gutted cat.Im in country NSW though,it might be different in the cities. Ive never even read on here about anyone getting caught and/or fined $10,000 for it.I dont use a gutted cat either.

You tend to get a tinny sound when having a gutted or no cat on coldstart and up untill the exhaust starts to get hot,my BA does anyway and wreaks of petty whilst idling twice as bad.My XR6 is off the road as a fun car for trackdays so its allgood. When I took out the 100cpsi cat the power went from 297rwkw@12psi to 304rwkw@12psi with same 297rwkw tune on board, removing a restiction you would have to expect that but not in the vacinity of 10rwhp over a race cat that was illegal anyway.
