I have a 05 Commodore Lumina with 17's and it's time to replace the tyres.
Currently have a set of Nexen N3000 which have been ok in the past. Noisy and crap in the wet.
I need to replace them, Can anyone suggest any good tyres, I'm currently looking at these below brand/model. I'm located in Melbourne.
235 / 45 / R17
Bridgestone
Turanza ER300
Turanza GR90
Falken
FK452
ZE912
Michelin
Pilot Preceda PP2
Primacy HP
Goodyear or Dunlop
Checkout Sumitomo HTR Z111's.Very quiet and awesome performance for the price.
i quite like maxxis there a decent price and prety damn good.
but stay the F*** away from bridgestones way over priced for what they are.
most brands that are half the price of bridgys are just as good if not better lol.
Id be asking thewheeldeal, forum sponsor. He has some pretty good prices and seeing that you are in Melbourne you could probably get them fitted for free. JC members also get a discount.
Im sure he could get you the best for your price range.
Bridgestone re001 are highly recommended.
You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.
I have the exact same size tyres, got Bridgestone Supercats for my VS Stato. Good price and good tread, I'd heard great things about them when I got them.
I found these on ebay today, Are Continental Pro Contact any good?
235/45R17 Continental Pro Contact tyre ON SPECIAL (eBay item 250735184752 end time 03-Dec-10 21:19:31 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats
I Know they are fantastic bike tyres, I know when i have been on my dads SV1000 they hung on so god damn well, after a quick spin the tyres were tacky like glue, of course hes only gotten about 5000kms out of them but heard good reports for cars tyres also. Ill stick to my rotalla tyres from ebay @ $100 each lol, $150 cheaper and better then the Nexen N3000s.
when tyres were done on my ute (also has the 235/45 R17)
the bloke put on kuhmo ones. cannot fault them at all.
make sure to ask if they are suited for aussie conditions. my old wheels looked "better" like a lower profile as such but were not quite suited to aus conditions etc.
make sure to check that.
Hey mate I've had Maxxix, pirelli, bridgestone potenzas, and just recently a cheap brand called auto grip. And so far I highly recommend autogrip and bridgestone potenzas are my favs, maxis are ok but were a little noisy pretty expensive
Thanks, I went to a bridgestone centre and they offered me cheap tyres like Supercats and Firestone TZ700. But they gave me the choice to buy Potenzas.
If you can spend the extra dollars and go with a named and proven tyre, dunlop, pirelli, goodyear, continentel etc.
Most of these other cheapies will yea feel ok, but the compounds used in these youl start to see strange things happen after a while. Kunhmos for example tend to always develop serious cracks around the sidewall, most noticeably in lowwer profiles.Others will start to distrort, bubble and sometimes completely seperate.
I used to be of the opinion that these cheaper brands are just as good as the names but that was because i had never bought actual decent tyres so dont go straight into actions after reading people telling you that maxxiss and all these chinese brands are just as good or better.
What a load of CRAP.
Kunhmos for example tend to always develop serious cracks around the sidewall, most noticeably in lowwer profiles.
At least get the spelling right, it is KUMHO.
Please show us some pictures of these cracks you are talking about.
Which particular KUMHO are you referring to KU36, KU31 V70A or other.
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all,,,,,,,,,

I recently changed the tyres on my VX SS, I bought a set of Toyos, they are made in Japan and are original equipment fitting to a lot of new cars Mazda in particular.
I am very happy with them, first thing I noticed was how quiet they are compared to the Bridgestone B530's I took off, they are a Silica compound. I think from memory they were about $170 a tyre for the 235/45/17 size. Done about 10,000km on them and they seem to be quite good no complaints. Tyrepower seem to be the main distributor for them.

Look im not getting into an argument about this, just read what i said and think what you want but im only speaking from experience. Yes my gramma may not be perfect but that really has nothing to do with this.
Choose to believe me or not but I am only talking from the years of experience ive had.
I never said EVERY Kumho will get this, tends to appear mainly on the ECSTA KU series.
As for photos i will definitely grab one of the next i come across.
i just bought some BLUE STREAK made by bridgestone
i can't fault them @ $99 each 17x235 plus $10 fitting and balance free rotation as often i like
