VY Handbrake Problems

VY Wagon Handbrake Problems
Hi I have a VY wagon and its Handbrake is crap . Also it squeaks all the time at low speed since it doesn't seem to retract properly and if you pull it on while you're going forward it grabs really badly. I hesitate to use it as an emergency brake because you'd have no control on it whatsoever.

Can anyone indicate if these symptoms are normal and something I have to live with or can they be fixed.

I get the same problems in my VY wagon. I've pulled both discs off and put new discs on then adjusted and cleaned the brake shoes and the same problems as you have still exist, the squeaking I had seemed to come from the disc brakes/pads themselves, a clean and grease of the slide pins on the calipers appeared to fix the squeaks for me.

I believe there may be an update kit available from Holden for the handbrake shoes involving a new spring?? not sure maybe someone else can elaborate on that. I do know that to replace the brake shoes was to be very expensive $170 each side, at least here in NZ!!
