what is the perpose of a gilmer drive,
what are the pro's and cons???
I believe the purpose is to prevent belt slip in high power or very responsive engines.
Pros:
Usually does pretty well preventing slip in place of v or multi ribbed belts.
Looks good in the right engine bay.
Cons:
Takes up more space.
Creates whining noise from both the teeth running through the air and from meshing with the pulleys.
Replacement belts tend to cost more.
As far as i know you cannot run more than your power steering pump, water pump, and alternator off them. Meaning no air con.
Not much point on a bog stock engine other than looks, although the old 308 drive belts didn't leave much to be envied.
