Central locking problems

Gday,
My VS 'S' has a problem with the central locking. When I bought it, the front r/h central locking didint work using the key button. Using a key, all the doors would open but with the button only the passenger doors would open. So I recently bought a second hand unit and fitted it. Easy or so I thought.

Now the problem.

The central locking works fine with the key button but not with the key.
The key will lock the car but not open it. (So the key turns to the left but not the right)
If sitting in the car, you lean on the lock, all the doors lock but cant be opened from the drivers door. you have to lift another doors latch or use the button on the key.

Now this may look like a 'whatever' problem but if the battery on the car (or key) goes flat it stays locked and cant be accessed. Since it stays locked the bonnet cant be opened and the battery cant be replaced to make it drivable (or openable) again. Catch 22.

Has anyone had this problem? And how did you fix it?

Ive spent ages trying to sort it but cant figure it out. The actuator is a black plug model. The original actuator is all black but the replacement has some green on its body. Could they be different? Maybe Ive put something in wrong?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my VS at the moment.I always use the deadlocking feature,but the last few weeks the key wont turn anti-clockwise to deadlock or just to lock for that matter.It will turn the other way,clockwise, to unlock though.I tried a newly cut key,and no difference.I havnt had a chance to look inside the door yet,I will post up what I find when I do get a chance to have a look.Hopefully someone else here has had a similar problem and has fixed it.
