why dont people sell their copies of the Holden Service Information Package?

ok i have a question, i have seen alot of people post pictures of the official holden service package (SIP they call it) but have said very strongly that they dont want to post the whole thing.

my question is why not? is it illegal to have? can i go to jail?

the reason i ask is i have a copy of it i got from 'someone' who worked for 'some company' that 'blah blah blah'...
basically its an unlocked version of the full manual that the holden guys look at when you take your cars to them, it has no registration etc and i got told it is pretty rare. it is complete from vt-vz including rodeo, barina, all W range models too (statesman)

if i give it to people without charge is that still illegal? obviously holden dont want anyone to have it, i know it has helped me alot getting parts off etc and the proper way of doing things.

just wondering what i should do??

well thats what im trying to get at, if i sell it to people will i get in shit from holden or even worse the police? :| there is no trace to the person i got it from and there is no way to trace how many copies there are (no registration needed etc). i know how much it has helped me with just interior stuff so people who take apart engines and bumpers and stuff would help so much more i reckon

if i were you i wouldnt be advertising that you have an illegal copy on YOUR computer....
its called piracy and can cost you thousands PER COPY that you have or have distributed elsewhere, same as if you burnt a DVD, you get caught with it you get the fine.

but chances of getting caught are pretty slim... unless you flaunt it around that you have it like you did in this post

and if you dont make money off it its not illegal, it is just copying something that is mine and giving it as a 'gift'

well admitting on a public forum that you have a cracked copy isnt the best way to keep things on the down low... cos if the cops do come knocking on your door after seeing this i can garuantee you will end up in court cos you dont have any proof of where you legally purchased it... doubt that holden would go easy on the charges either

alot of people have it on this site and other sites, im not pointing fingers but do you really think they would come door knocking for a kid with an illegal copy of something? im sure there are other people with illegal movies that they could worry about more, and if they cant prove im selling it for money then they cant do anything.

If it's the genuine article, it would be protected by copyrights across the country. That effectively prevents you from copying it and selling those copies. As mentioned earlier, it's a form of piracy and no different to selling downloaded latest release DVD's or CD's.

For your own sake, think twice.

doubtful you'd get into trouble unless you are using it for personal gain (i.e. selling copies of it).

The people who have it legitimately are probably under an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement), so if the copy you have gets leaked it may be able to be traced back to them by a watermark or similar and they could be in a lot of trouble.

Except that it (the intellectual property encompassed in the manuals) is not yours; it remains the property of the owner of the IP. A legitiamte purchaser of the CD (from the rightful owner of the IP) has the right to the use of the information and that it is it.

if there are police officer users id gladly like them to respond to inform me of what i can and cant do.

i understand the main people that will get in trouble will be the people who got the copy in the first place as it can be tracked back to them very easily, then they will come after me haha.

i think im beggining to understand why people dont want to sell or copy their copy's to other people, because they didnt get it legitimately in the fist place (including me) :P but there is nothing wrong with having a copy as long as you dont reproduce to make a profit

dude.... seriously.... your asking how much people would pay for a copy of it, why dont you just ask for orders and make it more obvious, you are in possession of STOLEN PROPERTY because you didnt BUY the rights to have it from its creator, neither did the person you got it from, if someone does go to the police about it, YOU WILL end up getting a hefty fine for reproducing a copy righted document.... what part of that dont you understand? like c'mon, people cant make it any more obvious that you could end up in sh*t (without being rude) and there is police scanning over forums looking for illegal activity.... if you want to reproduce it, dont do it on a public forum.... and no, you cant legally be in possession of a legal copy of this..... cos it gets sent to the service advisor at the holden dealership and is only good for one computer.... you want more copies, you pay for them, you buy the license to have it.

yeah sure i didnt pay for it and you could say it illegal for me to have a copy of it which might be true, but how many people on here have never downloaded a song, never downloaded a movie, never bought a pirated movie, pirated software, etc, etc. you see my point.

It is illegal to reproduce any copyrighted material without the permission of the owner. Selling it just makes it worse. Admitting you have a pirated copy of anything on a public forum is asking for trouble. Sure some people download music and videos, doesn't make it right or an excuse for you to say "but others do it so I will too." By the same analogy would you start speeding if someone overtook you who was speeding then use the excuse "but they were.....?"

Probably nothing to worry about, people burn cds and programs every day and even have whole websites dedicated to doing so.

I dont see any copy rite symbols or trade marks on any of the screen shots in photo bucket.

I honestly dont see whats wrong with people having information about a car that they own, especially that they were all bought new at some point for 30k+ from Holden.

Legally its probably frowned upon but I doubt you are going to have any one knock on your door about it, just keep it low, if you share it with anyone I doubt it will hurt.

You can access child pornography on the internet - but it's illegal! So do you think kiddie fiddlers sit on forums saying "but you can get in online by searching and other people download it so I don't see the harm.........."

Some of you seem to think because you can download stuff found online it's ok, most of you justifying it with "lot's of people do it....." It is illegal no matter how you look at it to copy, distribute or sell published material without the consent on the owner. Just because someone uploads it, doesn't suddenly make it right.
