Default aftermarket com chip = bad fuel economy?

hey guys just got a vs ute, had it a about 2 months and ive been testing out what its like on fuel. turns outs its pretty s***. if i drive it like a grandma i get about 300-350kms to the tank and people are saying i should be gettin atleast 400-450kms to the tank . i had a look at some reciepts it came with and it had a new aftermarket computer chip not long ago put in and a few people have been saying they wreckon that could be the case. but i think it could be something different just dont know what. any ideas why or similar experiences?

Get an original VS memcal (chip) from the wreckers and swap it over with your memcal to see how it goes on fuel then,a spare memcal should be cheap to buy and its like a 5 minute job to swap them over.

Sound's to me it has a miraculous power making chip that does nothing but use more fuel. As said get a standard one back in there or hit up a mail order tuner who knows what there doing if you have the spare coin.

300-350kms out of a tank is pretty normal if it's an auto around town. Take on a drive on the highway with cruise set and you should be up around 550-600 kms.

I do my own tunes for my VSV6 and Ive found that the fuel economy has just got better and better along with the extra performance Ive managed to wring out of it.I only use 98 octane fuel though too.

how do you do your own tunes?

Download the memcals file from the memcal chip to a computer using a chip burner/reader and special memcal adaptor, then open the file in a program like tunerpro, change some of the factory settings etc.Erase the standard image from the eprom chip on the memcal, then burn the modified image back to the now blank memcal chip.Thats about it really.Of course you also have to know what and how much to change or modify the different settings in the memcals file..

my Vs Ute (manual though) stock is getting under 11L per hundred km's. driving into town and into the city.
although a bit of my driving is on country roads, its still 500-600km a tank.
