air bag light staying on

hey.....can anyone help me,
my air bag light has come on and is staying on while im driving although it only beeps once when car has first started. i noticed it this afternoon and it was the first time id driven the car today. i only just bought the car a few weeks ago and have never had air bags before so i dont know much about them. i called my local holden dealer and he told me it would be $85 just to see what the problem was.....what could be wrong and whats the most im looking at to spend. also does it have to be done through a holden dealer. im a bit worried its going to deploy......is it safe to drive if the lights on??? the car is a 2002 vx commodore acclaim s2

You will need to see someone with a scantool that can access the SRS systems to find out whats actually going on . When the SRS module detects a problem in the system, it will log a certain SRS error code depending on what the problem actually is.The scantool can access these error codes which then gives you an idea as to what the problem may be.

Usually the airbag light will stay on if your cluster has been unplugged at some point. The only way to get it off is with Tech2 or similar scantool.

Thats if there isnt an actual problem with the airbags.
