So.. I was talking to blackstar7000 on ebay about a tune, gave him all the info about my bolt on mods ect and asked if he can give me a tune for more bottom end without losing fuel economy.
His reply says "remove roller rockers to regain bottom end."
I got these from MACE HIGH RATIO ROLLER ROCKERS FOR HOLDEN ECOTEC AND L67 V6 - Mace Engineering Group
In addition to top end gains, excellent low to mid range power gains are also achieved with these rockers.
So this guy blackstar7000, I have done a few searches and found a fair bit saying he sells good memcal tunes but after saying to remove the high ratio rockers I don't think he really knows what he is talking about.
Everyone else I have read that install these say the bottom end is improved a lot, I have them (got them last week) but havent installed them yet.
Should I look else where for a memcal tune?
I am thinking I might just go with a MACE memcal even though it isnt custom.. its likey going to be better than some guy that is advising me to take the rockers out.
Any thoughts?
Your logic seems sound mate.
Maybe even hassle Delcowizzid?
Echo above.
Whats your list of modifications including the roller rockers, even minor changes?
Stock right now, only got it a few months ago. It had damage to the floor in the boot and was classed as a repairable write off, my bros friend is a panel beater and fixed it for $300.
Already paid just under $500 for VIV inspection and roadworthy inspection but because its rural where I booked it in (Victor Harbor) there is only someone that comes every few months so I have to wait till whenever they go down there to do a few of them at once.
Thats the reason its stock now, I don't want any mods before the 2 inspections.
I have bought 1:9:1 roller rockers and a 2.5" Lukey cat back (no resonator) already, Ill also be getting 25mm manifold spacer and a 12mm plenum spacer, extractors, Lukey air filter and making my own CAI with a wider smoother intake between the MAF and TB. Nothing is fitted yet, rockers are in the boot and exhaust is in my bros shed. Possibly MSD coil packs, leads and platnum spark plugs. The last 2 Ill do some research on before I decide if they are worth the price or not.
Nothing major really but I'm just after more bottom end like my Buick V6 in my S1 VN Calais has.
Also I cant remember what website it was but they did a ton of different tunes for VT V6 memcals, one of them had a little detail about being tuned for high ratio roller rockers. So that makes me think a custom tune would be a little better than a generic one that says "+10-15kw, recommended with CAI and cat back exhaust" or whatever they say.
I PM'd greenfoam on ebay (nicefrog) a little over a week ago and didn't get any reply, I tried to PM Delcowizzid on here but his inbox was full so I clicked on send email but I have no idea if he got it.

dont listen to blackstar. he just copies standard hsv tunes and says they are modded to your needs. i was stung once. gave him all my modded info etc etc cam specs , exhaust flow blah blah he ended up just giving me a simple sv3800 . how are you gonna know what he gives you, until someone with the gear can check it out
In the scheme of things, all those mods are minor mods really. IMO, the standard tune will be fine, don't waist your money. You'd be suprised what the standard tune/ECU can do.
Cam before tune IMO.
I doubt Ill be getting a cam due to labour costs not game enough to give it a go my self, and yes I agree they are all minor mods.
I was reading a article about a stock VX, 93rwkw tested before mods.
Then performance heads (no idea what heads), extractors, 69mm throttle body, SS CAI, high ratio roller rockers, manifold and plenum spacer was added.
Those mods bought it up to 126rwkw.
It says it was done with the factory ECU but I doubt it was with a stock tune.
Lots of places (some reputable and some not) say average is 10-15kw increase from a standard memcal, some of the ebay say up to 25kw but that's just for gullible people I would say.
$100 for a tune with more bottom end and tweaked a few things here and there cant hurt for now. All I was after was the same bottom end as my Buick and it lead to starting to buy all these one at a time when I have the cash.
I got a message from ejukated about memcal tunes, usually does super 6 tunes but I'm sure he will have no probs working something out for me.
