Ended up hitting a traffic island going 80km and hit a sign too, so was just wondering what kind of damages would i be looking for?
The island was one of those square ones, not round, so it was a pretty big impact..
I know the radiator is bent and theres plastic or something been ripped out from under the car, and all 4 tires popped and shredded.. but i was just wondering what other damages would there be? any chance of chassis damage?
I hit it straight on btw.
Lots??.........................
really? it didnt look too bad under the car though, just ripped plastic. because the gutters are generally just below the car, so would hitting the island with the 2 front wheels cause all that damage, or would i have had to hit the bottom of the car on the island to do that much damage?..
Once the front tyres popped the clearance underneath would have reduced so there is a chance you could have done some damage underneath, you need to get it up on a hoist and have a good look.
I would be surprised if it would drive straight ever again, if its insured I would be reporting it as its probably a repairable write off.
If its not insured then you are up for a lot to fix it (by the sounds of the impact)
yeah its insured, but for over 19,000, so the insurance company will wana do everything they can not to write it off...
Underneath definatly got the damage, because my front bumper wasnt touched, except by the pole, and so the gutter impact was all on the underneath..
id probably try and get it wriiten off it was me... sounds like theres going to be alot of damage
Not much i can do about it, had to tow it away, as it was pretty much on the rims at the front.
so the insurance company is having a look at it.. but i rekon they will just get it repaired even if the chassis has been hit, becuase they wouldnt wana pay me out so much.. although i do have to pay the first 3000.
Does that make it easier for them to write it off, seeing as my excess is high?
Is it a VX? That's a hell of a lot for insurance. I would be trying to get the pay out, without seeing pics I would say the whole drive line is at risk of having major damage as well as all the mounts that could have ripped or bent where they mount to, suspension and steering components would have taken a lot of damage, possible damage to strut towers ect.
Obviously tyres and rims, maybe front struts, new axles and possibly diff.
And yeah as in your first post, huge chance of chassis damage.
Its good you are ok though, things could have been a lot worse.
Yeah im lucky straight on the other side was road again, so i pretty much went over it, and then went bak in my lane.. lol
stopped about 50-100metres away though..
What would the damage have to be for it to be written off? taking into account the salave sale that the insurance company can get with it only doing 99,000km..
Its a ba xr6 ute, seems weird in a commy forum, but i still love the commys, used to have 2 of them.
WHAAAAAAT !!!!!!!! I read all this crap for a f#@kin FORD . Burn it . BTW wont take much to write one them f#@kers of , she'll be f#@ked mate say good bye to her
At 43 a wealth of info , but still heaps to learn
lol dw mate, still prefer the holdens.![]()
you caused the accident, you were there and you have investigated it yourself..how are we went to be able to see more damage than you? :/
just ring a wreckers to come out and have a look at it, he will doa whole f**k load more than we can man...
Yeah i know, its already being assessed, just wanted to know what im in for, and thought people might know the damages that kind of accident can cause..
i dont know if this is true or not, but i was pretty sure that any chassis damage and the car will be written off?
Depends on the extent of the damage, they can straighten the chassis on a rack if its not too bad.
The amount you have to pay for excess isn't factored into it at all, it is irrelevant to the assessment and claim process. They simply cost the amount of damage against the red book value of the car and make the decision.
How do you expect people to make an assessment of the damage from you describing what you hit and how fast you were going? Wait and see what the assessor says.
Was interested in finding out how you hit an island anyway but you answered it for me, an xr6 come on!
How did u hit it really haha?
Yo.
Good chance of it having a ripple/crease in the floor somewhere, like the front floor pans if you hit front on (as well as other major damage). But until it is assessed properly you wont know for sure. I'd bet my left aggart that it's write off by the sounds of it.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
When i had my crash a few yrs ago, i hit a median strip at a moving rate.
I had broken:
lower control arm
shocks
wheel warped
bearings
Im sure theres more holden fixed, it certainly didnt drive straight after.
dont you have to report it once it causes an amount over a grand?
My bet is on:
4 buckled Rims
4 Buckled Rotors
4 rooted bearings
Bent/Snapped Swaybar
Ripped Castor rod bushes
Bent subframe
Dented Sump
Torn Engine Mounts
Torn trans mount
Buckled Floor
Cracked Radiator/AC Cndensor
Bent Front Shock Absorbers
Damaged strut top bushes, possibly damage to strut towers

I had 17 inch black herrod wheels on, and yes they are all dented and ####ed lol, just had all the brakes done too and 1 bearing, cost me 900 for machined rotors, new pads, and the bearing..
And with the tranny, would that be ###ed too? because i only just got a new xr6 turbo tranny put in not long ago for 2500 lol. bad timing much... had extractors booked in for 3 days after.
Would over 15k be out of the question?
