Depression over mindset of car discussion
geez im starting to get depressed.
these times of high fuel cost, have led to discussion (forums/press/media) over things us car enthusiasts loathe. For example in the 64 page herald sun cars guide (in melb), around 63 pages is devoted to fuel efficency, LPG gas conversion, and offers of fuel for purchasing cars etc etc.
has "perforamce" become a dirty word.
is this gunna spell the end of the golden performace age we have experianced especially in the last 7yrs or
What are ppls thoughts on this.

Well its not going to stop me, sure I won't drive my car as much. But I'm still going to hook in as much as I can.
I think its going to scare alot of people off, I mean i saw on the news last night, A current affair it may have been, some guy buying a 4cylinder, saying its the new mans car of choice. Stuff that, if I want something small and cheap on petrol I'll buy a bike. And to be honest I'm not far off it.
But I'm not just going to stop and give up on a passion I have for the sake of an extra.. 20 dollars every time I fill up. Thats going by prices of what I used to pay and what it probably is now.

Yeh it sucks ass, I have always disliked v6s, I used to think they had no purpose. My motto was if u want balls u buy a v8, if u want fuel economy buy a 4cyl and v6s have no use well apart from taxis. But last weekend we did the unthinkable and bought another car, a v6. Would have loved another v8 but with petrol the way it is its just not feasible. So we bought a v6 just for fuel economy, a 4cl probably would of had better fuel economy buy we just couldn't stoop that low.
I can't ever see us driving a 4cyl car or converting to gas but who knows in a few years....... after all never thought I'd be driving a v6
It sucks that people are having to compare cars fuel efficiency, rather than its kw or 0-100 time like it used to be

So long as it remains a personal choice, that is there isn't legislation to prevent or limit performance, I'm OK with the increased focus on fuel economy. I, and I'm sure many other enthusiasts, will find a way to extract performance from whatever is available. Maybe that means changing fuels, a smaller vehicle or increasing the air flow through a fuel cell. Even saving fuel or money elsewhere to make it available for the purpose. Whatever it takes.
I do think that the past decade or so, and maybe the next 5 or so years, will be remembered for some time as a golden age of performance in a similar way to that of the '60s, early '70s before the last 'fuel crisis'. While there may be a short hiatus as adjustment is made, in a free society with freedom of expression, performance will return.

Nothing wrong with a hot 6, look at the power Supras (RIP) and Skylines pump out.. they have no use for a V8

Dunno about RICEY (lets not go there mullet_boy ) but CAPA did supercharged XR8 ute with awesome power (based off a bored out mustang v8 if i remember right), i cant remember the figures but in usual driving from town to town it still got about 9 litres per 100 km, i know but if you gave it the boot it would suck it well.

In terms of street performance, japanese 6's (turbos) are becoming invinsible! They can't tow like an 8.
