    Default sorry its a ford

helping someone with a ford territory

can't go too crazy pulling things apart like i would with a commo coz it's not my car

    anyway...

    - intermittent no start problem
    - sometimes perfectly normal
    - sometimes nothing (no cranking) but all lights (battery, dash, etc...) good
    - dash error codes = none
    - dash lights security module = apparently good
    - when it plays up, car can be started with ignition key on and screwdriver across starter motor solenoid terminals
    - ok for a week or day or a minute or a month then silly for 30 minutes or 1 day and then good again for a week or so

    electronic module ?
    earth issues ?

any comments, ideas, advice and even abuse will be appreciated

I've seen a LOT of fords where the park switch thingo has gone. When it doesn't start, put the selector in neutral and try again. If it starts in neutral but not park then theres your problem

similar problem with my car. (commodore though)
turned out to be a starter motor.

another option would be to talk to an auto electrician, they would be a good start.

    thanks for the replies
terminals have been cleaned and battery seems ok
starter motor also seems ok as it cranks strong and starts and runs ok if the ignition circuit is bypassed and solenoid gets 12v direct
probably not real good to keep starting it this way so...auto electrician will be paid to provide the solution tomorrow
thanks again and i'll update when i know what the fix is.

    update.
aftermarket smart lock and dvd player fitted by factory ford dealer.
car purchased new with "full" ford warranty.
dealer wouldn't touch it and referred it back to ford and ford wouldn't touch it coz they were not factory parts - nice little scam.
rubbish removed from ignition circuit by auto electrician - all good now for less than $200.
    thanks again for responses.
