Roof Lining on ebay
Anyone know of a similar service or someone who will fit a new roof lining in Sydney ?
It's pretty easy to do yourself.
-Remove all roof accessories (mirror, grab handles, sun visors), remove cover and globe from interior light and unscrew it.
-Unclip the top clip of the A-pillar trim
-pull down the top edge of door seals at all four doors
-Unclip the b pillar by flipping up the cover over the seatbelt mounting point and unbolting the seatbelt.
-Un-tuck the headlining from the A and B pillars - don't touch the C pillars or any trim near the back as you might break it!
-Slide the entire roof lining forward and down, making sure you push the interior light through the hole in the lining as you go.
-Roll/bent the cover a little and remove it through the drivers side rear door.
-relocate velcro clips back onto the roof if they get pulled off with the lining.
Installation is the same process backwards :P Just be very careful with any plastic trims as they were very brittle on a '93 VR that i did.
HOW TO replace headlining - Very detailed
Thanks I have the link to how to replace headlining, but I would like someone else to do it if not to expensive
anyone know of a similar service in Sydney ?
Willing to travel 2 hours down to South Nowra??? Gary Bowen Upholstery will do it there. Not sure on fitting cost though as I fitted mine myself. He charged me about $120 from memory to retrim mine. Top job too and he's easy to deal with.
Maybe ring a few upholsterer's in sydney area?

it's job that can be done with your eyes shut so why pay someone else to do it?
Laziness, Lack of time to do it due to work, Disability, Doesnt feel up to the job.
Just because it can be done yourself, Doesnt mean everyone can do it. Like changing an oil filter is a piss easy job, But i wouldnt do it on our MY08 Golf TDI cause i might #### it up... And thats a big repair bill compared to ####ing it up on my buick and using todays coffee money to buy a replacement motor
yeah i understand that, but there's not much that could go wrong doing a rooflining.
i wasn't having a go at him about it just asked thats all.
the proper roofling material is about $70 for the job, probably cheaper for the auto trimmer.
and it only usually takes an hour/hour and a half to do the whole job.
so through a trimmer i would say around the $150 mark.
anyone else had atrimmer do theirs?
if so what did it cost?
The reason I'm getting a pro to fit it, is because I don't want to butcher it
I already ripped a wire out of the interior light while removing the lining![]()
I didnt fk anything up so far, but I've just removed the whole lot. I havent had the time or money (in fair bit of debt atm) to do anything about it. I dont even have the cardboard frame. any ideas where to find in Perth?
I had to fix this myself on my old VS.
From memory, Street Commodores' forums have a very useful step-by-step sticky thread for this in their DIY VS section.
In essence though:
1. Pull away plastic stanchions along roof lining
2. Carefully take out roof lining (it will be a semi-hard cardboard mould) - you will need to re-use this
3. Peel off material
4. Get a scraper and scrap away foam and glue material, try not to damage the cardboard
5. Go to spotlight and purchase desired material, go to Clarke rubber and purchase 5mm width foam, go to Bunnings and purchase Apoxy glue
6. Cover glue on cardboard
7. Place foam onto glue
8. Leave to dry
9. Trim with knife
10. Cover foam with glue
11. Cover glue with material
12. Fold excess around to other side of cardboard and staple, cut V shapes where necessary for neat trim
13. Leave to dry
14. Reinstall
15. Clip in plastic stanchions
16. Done
In regards to the cardboard frame - I believe you mean the roof-lining, you will need to re-use the one you pulled out. Clean off the old glue and foam and material ready to apply new glue and foam and material. If you broke it, or it isn't re-usable, you will need to visit your local wreckers for a new one I would presume. Rip it out of a trashed one.
