Hey Guys,
I know this isn't a Holden related engine question, but we all love cars and hopefully someone can help me.
My mate wanted me to help him clean up his car as he going to try and sell it. The engine bay was looking rather dirty, so we decided to clean it using degreaser and wash it off like I have plenty of times with my VT. I didnt use a high pressured water gun on the engine.
It's a manual and before all this is use to struggle in first, like it lacked power untill it got to around 2k revs.
Now the thing has lost all power and splutters and back fires. When you rev it, it has a low gurgle. So has i stuffed something up big time by getting water in somewhere like the MAF? Or has the car dropped a cylinder where i am looking at a faulty led and spark plug.
Any advice is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance
Id say its more than likely just water got in it somewhere, soak all the electricals in wd 40 and leave it overnight. Also it wouldnt hurt to check the wires and vacuum hoses etc that run around various parts of the engine and engine bay,one might have come off with the high water pressure.
thanks bro, ill do that now
what model/year is it?
if it has a dizzy pop the cap off and check that theres no water under the cap.

apparently wasting my time with 97 cubic inches
milk doesnt come in 1.6 litres
my geminis
could be a bunch of things.
did you block off the air filet? could be water in one of the resonators. does this car have a dizzy (as mentioned) or is it coil over plug. if so the plugs may have water in them and are cross firing.
Not 100% sure of year, somewhere between '94-'97. it was an LX model
I believe its coil. I am so annoyed right now because I was just sitting there thinking how easy this was going to be to change over the leads, sparks & oil etc, and all the basic engine care for him and i went and jinxed myself with the car gods. lol
