Hey guys,
So my younger sisters just got their P's and a little Toyota Starlet. My dad is a bit concerned about their driving skills so asked me to see if I could get some reversing sensors and install them to help them out. Anyway I was having a look on ebay and I saw this REVERSE PARKING SENSORS - NO DRILLING NO POSTAGE!! (eBay item 250782687171 end time 10-Mar-11 21:34:20 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats.
I checked the feedback and 2 people have bought them from him before. One guy said they were great the other said that normal sensors are better. Has anyone had any experience with these? Hoping they are alright to save me drilling holes in the bumper.
this technology has been around for years, and its pretty average at best, it works but you dont really know how far away anything is.
look at this way. if there was a decent solution to drilling holes in the bumper and having visible sensors. dont you think merc, bmw, bently ferrari would be using it???
i fit 2-3 sensor kits a week, sometimes you can get them pretty un- noticable
Ah ok, this may seem like a stupid question but what do you mean by "you dont really know how far away anything is"? It says that it starts beeping more and more frequent as you get closer to the obstacle.
But yes I do see what you mean when you say about why merc, bmw etc. aren't using it. However I had a quick look at the starlet and it doesn't look like there is much room to fit the normal style sensors between the bumper and car it self. I will take a closer look soon and see what I can find out.
I have seen you can by reversing sensors from hong kong for ~$15-20 are these any decent or should I be avoiding them?
Anyway cheers for the response, I really appreciate it.
I think he means that they're not 100% accurate. Always remember, you get what you pay for. The HK kits might work fine, but are probably more likely to fail than name brands. I'm not saying they will, I'm just saying the build quality is often s#!t so say the least. I speak from experience in a Eonon brand Headunit btw. Not just going off assumptions. Worked fine for a year then partially died.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
yeah sorry, those behind bar sensors have a habit of been in accurate, and changes as well, eg you walk up to the back of the car, its beeps at a certain rate, move out of its range then back to the same spot again, and it wil have a different rate of beep... just too inconsitant.
you dont need much room behind the bar. the sensors we use are only about 10-12mm and 3-4mm of that is in the bar.
as for the cheapies from ebay... the kits we use are considered cheap and dont have a problem, but as always, if you go by a kit from supercheap or whatever it has a warranty,, stuff on ebay doesnt
Ah ok cool, thanks for clearing that up guys.
You both have a good point, If i am going to be drilling holes in a bumper I am not going to want it to fail 6 months down the track.
I wanted to avoid the normal ones mostly because I am not that comfortable with drilling holes in my sister's new car but I guess if I employ the age old method of measure twice cut once I should be fine. I looked in the supercheap catalogue and they have a set for $99 so that might be the way to go.
I have obviously seen these on cars getting around and the sensors are colour coded to the car. I am guessing this means they can be painted over?
No offense intended, but how bout just learning how to reverse park? Everyone relies on technology these days.
My new car has reverse (and front) parking sensors. I find them insanely annoying and turn them off when I start the car now. The reversing camera is very handy though. I find the old fashioned reverse sensor far less annoying.

Well mate your welcome to your opinion but like it has been said my sister wants them, my dad thinks its a good idea and is willing to buy the stuff for me to do it for her. I didn't ask if people thought they were worth getting or not I asked about the different products currently on the market.
Cheers for the input naf33n and duk13y. I have spoken to dad about it and he is now thinking a reversing camera might be a better option.
