GTS-R to make a comeback?

We waved goodbye to one of the last true muscle car HSVs when the final GTS-R rolled off the production line, and when HSV released one of the new E series models in a striking yellow hue it surely set the hearts of GTS-R tragics ablaze as fond memories of the unique ‘love it or hate it’ winged wonder came flooding back. Add to the mix those dark, tri-spoke wheels as sported by the E3s and it was a genuine tug on the old heartstrings.

Well, in exclusive news we can reveal that a GTS-R themed VE has been spotted rolling around the greater Clayton area, and if the news fed to us by our Melbourne man on the scene is to be believed, it sounds blown.

Dressed in proper Yellah paint and with GTS-R correct carbon fibre highlights, the car’s emergence comes just in time for Motorshow season, and as Ford unleash their supercharged V8 Falcon onto the market with it’s prodigious rear wheel horsepower figure we can only hope that the rumours of the GTS-R’s return are true.

Further to the story that we broke on Tuesday evening about a potential GTS-R themed VE prowling the mean streets of Melbourne, we've done some digging on your behalf to bring you a Street Commodores exclusive.

Contact with one of the country's leading performance brands confirmed the existence of a GTS-R development vehicle, and while exact specifications at this stage are vague we can confirm the Yellah paint and carbon inserts.

Pressing for details we couldn't get a firm answer on what was under the bonnet of the reborn GTS-R however rumours of a positive displacement blower or LS9 conversion are rife.

How good is this can't wait to find out more. anyone else heard anything. here is a photoshop of what a ve gts-r might look like.

Further to this.... The word, from somebody with a super cool job in Clayton, is that HSV have something huge and very exclusive being released for the Australian International Motor Show which opens 1 July 2011 in Melbourne. Maybe we are wrong about the GTS/R......

still 6.2 s/c but better than the ls9
