hey guys i have run into a problem with my vs commodore. after recebtly pulling the motor out to do all the gaskets and now the motor has been reassembled and is back in the car teh drive belt squeals its tits off , and after purchasing a drive belt aligner we have discovered that the harmonic balancer is on too far so it is one rib out of line ?
does anyone no if there is an oil slinger in front of the timing chain? i never took the chain or gears off and its doin my head in, the balancer needs to be spaced out a whole rib and i cant work out wat to do cheers guys
If its a whole rib too far in then the sensor track on the back of the balancer would be coming pretty damn close to the Crank angle sensor!
when you tighten the balancer up it is actually tightening against a taper, so it gets to a point wherethe bolt is tight due to the balancer no longer being able to slide into the taper. I have never come across a condition like the one you describe...
Honestly i have never used a 'drive belt aligner', and i didnt even think you needed one for the ecotec??? Ive taken apart and reassembled many ecotecs, just slap the pullies and belt on and away we go.
Though... no i think of it.. there is a key way on the crank to locate the balancer. Maybe the key (or biscuit as i was taught) has fallen out allowing the balancer to slide on further? Maybe worth pulling it off and inspecting
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!
